The initiative of enrollment of voters launched by the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K is welcome. The Election Commission of India was lauded for its role in conducting free and fair Parliamentary elections in the State recently.
However, it is to bring in the notice of the election conducting authorities that the most of the voters did not have voter identity cards which are quite necessary at the time of voting.
Many voters could not exercise their right as they had not these cards with them. The Chief Electoral Officer is requested to direct the authorities to issue voter identity cards to the eligible voters at the earliest, so that they can take part in the coming Assembly elections.
