KATHUA, Feb 19: The irate family members of a youth hailing from village Hamirpur along with large number of people held protest here and blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway.
Large number of people including family members of a youth namely Ganesh Kumar, son of Ashok Kumar, a resident of Village Hamirpur assembled at Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Hamirpur and held protest. They also blocked the vehicular movement on the Highway, leading to long traffic snarls.
The protestors alleged that Ganesh Kumar was assaulted by Sarpanch of village Hamirpur namely Bharat Bhushan and his brother Naresh Kumar and demanded registration of case against them.
During the protest, a police constable namely Gopal Dass, who was reporting the incident to his higher-ups was also assaulted by the angry mob. He was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.
After getting information, senior officers from District Administration and Police Department rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protestors, but the latter remained firm on their demand.
Later, a case under FIR Number 24/16 was registered against Sarpanch and his brother at Rajbagh police station.
After registration of the case, the protestors dispersed and the vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
Meanwhile, a case has also been registered at same police station against the mob for assaulting the police constable.
As per police sources, Ganesh Kumar eve-teased the daughter of Sarpanch’s brother and a case in this regard was registered at Rajbagh police station.
However, Sarpanch and his brother assaulted the youth, who received injuries and was admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, from where he doctors have referred him to PGI Chandigarh.
