Iran may be cutting oil production due to US Naval blockade: Reports

MOSCOW, May 3: Iran has allegedly begun cutting oil production due to the US naval blockade, Bloomberg claimed citing a senior official.

Tehran is preemptively cutting oil production to prevent reaching storage capacity, rather than waiting for tanks to fill completely, the agency said.

However, it did not specify the country of origin of the official whose statement it cites.

According to Bloomberg, Iranian engineers are capable of shutting down wells and quickly resuming production without causing serious damage.

On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, killing more than 3,000 people. Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire on April 8. Subsequent talks in Islamabad ended without result, with no resumption of hostilities reported, but the US began a blockade of Iranian ports.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump sent a letter to Congress announcing the end of hostilities against Iran, specifying that American forces would remain in the region to deter potential threats from Tehran.
