MUMBAI: Another scandal hit the gentleman’s game as Bollywood actor, producer and brother of superstar Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, was on Friday summoned by the Thane Police for alleged involvement in a betting scam involving the 2018 Indian Premier League.

Police asked Arbaaz to present himself at Thane police commissioner’s office on Saturday morning for questioning in connection with his alleged links to India’s topmost bookie Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Malad. Arbaaz and Malad were in contact and the bookie had helped the actor in placing bets on T20 cricket matches during the recently-concluded IPL season.

The investigating officer in this case, Pradip Sharma, had submitted his preliminary report to Thane police chief. A couple of days ago,Thane police’s anti-extortion cell arrested Malad, who revealed during questioning that Arbaaz would place bets on IPL matches through him and the duo were in regular contact. It was also reported that the Bollywood celebrity had suffered heavy losses in betting.

Police asserted that Malad had levelled many allegations against Arbaaz, but declined to comment  till they question the actor.  The officials have seized a diary from Malad’s house, which had the numbers of top 50 bookies. Malad also had connections with the ‘D-company’, headed by fugitive underworld don and terrorist Dawood Ibrahim. He is reported to have earned Rs 500 crore from betting in 2018 IPL. (AGENCIES)
