International Women’s Day celebrated with enthusiasm

JAMMU, Mar 8: International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm, zeal and fanfare. The theme for this year’s observance was “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.
Asserting that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan said that the present era marked the biggest social change due to removal of inequality among genders which gave due recognition to women of our country.
Advisor made these remarks while addressing a large gathering of womenfolk on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Tagore Hall here.
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, said that the world is changing and women are taking up every field and making their contribution at all levels and the government has initiated several schemes for women empowerment.
In her welcome address, Mission Director, ICPS, Shabnam Shah Kamili said that this country has a long history of women emancipation.
On the occasion, artists from Firdous Dramatic Club performed a skit on the theme of day highlighting the bias against women bedides artists from Sonzal Art Cultural Organization also mesmerized the audiences with their colorful performances.
Later, Advisor Khan felicitated 10th, 12th class meritorious girl students, girl sports persons, businesswomen and several women welfare officers on the occasion.
On the occasion, Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta announced that every district would have its ‘Umeed Women Haat’ by next month.
The Chief Secretary was speaking in a function organized by J&K Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) to honour the women achievers of J&K and launch few women oriented initiatives.
The Commissioner Secretary, RDD, Mandeep Kaur said that the mission has created hope among thousands of women. She said that she is very confident that the trust reposed by CS in the mission would be kept under every circumstances.
In her presentation the Mission Director, JKRLM, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar said that in just 6 months the SAATH initiative has attained its targets successfully. She gave out that under this programme 513 women entrepreneurs have been provided sectoral specific training out of whom 120 have been choosen for further mentorship.
An SHG tracking portal- ‘Aajeevika JK’ was launched by the Chief Secretary besides declaring open the Umeed Women Haatat Srinagar from 8th to 12th of this month. The portal was said to help in tracking all economic activities undertaken by SHG members, their income and other services availed from different departments like gold card, artisan card, Shram cards, insurance benefits under PMSBY, PMJJY.
IAS officers Wives Association, (IASOWA), J&K, today celebrated International Women’s Day’s Day 2022 cum Holi Milan.
The function was organised by IASOWA under supervision of President IASOWA, Dr. Amita Mehta, an environmentalist, wife of Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta.
Manu Bhatnagar, wife of Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, RR Bhatnagar, members of IASOWA were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion, Dr Amita Mehta felicitated two IAS lady officers Mandeep Kaur (2004 IAS) and Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar (2013 IAS) and said that these two officers have inspired hundreds of other women to achieve their dreams like they did.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) celebrated International Women’s Day with zeal and enthusiasm. A Mini-Marathon comprised of faculty, staff, and students. Anuradha Chawla, Founder of Bbetter HR Solutions was the guest speaker on the occasion. Prof. BS Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu presided over the function.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Central University of Jammu organized a special lecture on the topic “Status of Women in Jammu and Kashmir after abrogation of Article 370”. The lecture was chaired by Prof Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor Central University of Jammu and co-chaired by Dr Rouchi Choudhary Incharge Director Central for Comparative Religions and Civilization at the Central University of Jammu.
To celebrate International Women’s Day 2022, the NSS volunteers of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized an awareness session on “Female hygiene and sanitation”. The volunteers spread awareness regarding the necessity of following proper sanitary as well as hygiene habits, among several female housekeeping staff of SMVD University. The initiative was appreciated by Dr Rajiv Kumar, Faculty Coordinator, NSS, SMVDU.
The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu organized awareness program on the theme “Agar Mahilaien Jaagruk Nahi Hui to Pakshpaat Badhta Jayega” for the Community Women of Self Help Groups of Village, Bajalta, Jammu, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. At the very outset, Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, in her address highlighted the importance of International Women’s day. Prof. Sanjana Koul, from the School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu who was one of the resource persons, deliberated on the various women-related issues. Dr Hema Gandotra, Senior Assistant Professor from the Department of Sociology, University of Jammu who was the other resource person, dwelt upon the importance of empowering women through the provision of equal opportunities in every field.
University of Ladakh (UoL) Kargil Campus celebrated International Women’s Day. Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan was the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve was the guest of honour. Registrar UoL, Imteaz Kacho, Director Kargil Campus UoL, Kaneez Fatima, Councilor Muhammad Ali Chandan, besides a number of students, teaching staff and women achievers were present during the day-long program. During the program, women achievers of Kargil district from different fields were felicitated with mementos and were given certificates of appreciation. On the occasion, a short documentary film titled “women a journey to empowerment” produced by students of the Sociology Department, UoL Kargil campus was also screened. An impressive skit projecting the existing gender discrimination in society was also presented by Ranthag Theater Group Kargil.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, The Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri organized a symposium on ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’. The symposium was organised by the Cultural and literary Club of the University. Prof. Akbar Masood said that International Women’s Day comes with an opportunity to highlight the many extraordinary women amongst our staff, students and alumni, who continue to push for equality in all its forms to make this planet a much better place to live.
Kashmir University’s Centre for Women’s Studies and Research (CWSR) organized a national-level seminar to celebrate the International Women’s Day. Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad inaugurated the seminar titled ‘Break the Bias: Striving For Equity’. Prof Pamila Singla from Delhi University delivered the keynote address and called for doing away with gender biases and stereotypes which, she said, are “ingrained in our minds.” Prof Mehraj-ud-Din Mir, former VC Central University of Kashmir and Prof Nilofar Khan, former Director CWSR KU were guests of honour. KU Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir was the special guest. The VC later released ‘News Digest’, a newsletter-cum-journal of CWSR and a book titled ‘Education in Contemporary India’ authored by Dr Rabia.
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar celebrated International Women’s Day in which speakers lauded the contrition of women folk in the society. The event was organized by Department of Physics. Prof Seemin Rubab from the Physics Department was the event coordinator, while Senior Scientist, Dr Nasheeman Ashraf from CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Sanat Nagar was the chief guest and Prof (Dr) Massarat Khanon was guest on the occasion.
International Women’s Day was celebrated in IECS Polytechnic, Purkhoo Camp, Domana, Jammu. A seminar was conducted on Topic “Gender Equality today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” which actually is theme for this year’s Women’s Day. Various students spoke on this topic. Ajay Singh Jamwal, Dean Administration asserted the importance of women in Nation building and urged the females to be bold and assertive.
The NSS unit of Government College of Education Jammu under the guidance of Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour celebrated the International Women’s Day with the inmates of Neha Ghar, Jammu.
The volunteers led by Programme Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal and Prof Sarita Dogra distributed eatables among the inmates and stationery items among the girls staying at Neha Ghar. They also enlightened them about their rights and presented skits on the social issues prevailing in the society.

Sunita Kargotra, Deputy Director Prosecution Officer Jammu, was the chief guest on the occasion.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Central Sanskrit University, Shri Ranbir Campus, Jammu, under the aegis of National Service Scheme unit of the Campus. Prof Deepsheekha Kotwal, former Head of the Department, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. The function was presided over by Prof Madan Mohan Jha, Director, Shri Ranbir Campus. The female employees were felicitated on the occasion.
International Women’s Day was celebrated in Vimal Muni College of Education, Vijaypur in the theme “Gender Equality Today for Sustainable Tomorrow.” College Chairperson Anu Gupta, Principal and staff members were present on the occasion. Students expressed their views on the said theme, recited poems and some of them depicted their message on International Women’s Day through charts and posters.
Dogra Law College organized an event on the occasion of “International Women’s Day”. Sonia Gupta, Chairman, DLSA and Principal District and Sessions Judge, Samba was the chief guest. Gulchain Singh Charak, Former Minister and Chairman of Dogra Educational Trust emphasized upon the importance of the day. A poster making and slogan writing competition was organized in KC College of Education today on the eve of Women’s Day. The theme of the event was “Women Empowerment” wherein a good number of students participated. The best three entries were awarded suitably. NSS Unit of Government Gandhi Memorial Science College visited martyr’s family at Bajalta under the patronage of Principal Dr Ravender Tickoo and to celebrate International Women’s Day. NSS GGM Science College visited the parents of martyr Rifleman Sohan Lal Bhagat 18 Assam Regiment who laid down his life for nation on 13th November 2017 and donated some money. Women’s Studies Centre of the college also celebrated the day. NSS Unit of the college also celebrated the day by organizing self defense camp.
The Women Development Cell of Government College of Education Jammu organized three days seminar on the theme “Break the Bias” to commemorate International Women’s Day. On the third day of the event, the sub theme was “Technology and Cyborge as the New Equalizer” and Dr Rekha Choudhary spoke on the theme. International Women’s Day was celebrated by Chenab College of Education by organizing an awareness program on the theme “Role and Rights of Women—a step towards Women empowerment”. The resource persons on the occasion were Parveen Sangral President Muskan Foundation, Vijaypur Samba, and Rajesh Bhardwaj Vice President, Muskan Foundation. Principal of the College Dr Inderjeet Kour was also present on the occasion. The students presented songs, speeches and recited poems related to the theme.
KC College of Education took out women empowerment rally and organized poster making competition on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Principal of the college Dr Sanjay Tikku was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr Sanjay Tikku said that in today’s era women are also walking shoulder to shoulder with men. We should rise above conservative thinking and give equal rights to women. Otherwise, we will be deprived of the cooperation of about 50% of the people of the country. If seen in different fields, today women are raising the name of India. Astronaut Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams, former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, boxer Mary Kom, badminton player Saina Nehwal etc. have brought laurels to India. It is the need of the hour that gender discrimination should be removed. On this occasion students like Shifali Jamwal, Sapna Sharma, Nisha, Neetu, Manila, Meenu, Ritu, Deepshikha, Bharti, Sonika, Shweta etc. took out a rally and participated in the poster competition. The college administration said that due to Corona reasons, the number in the rally was kept low
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Government GLDM Degree College Hiranagar under the supervision of Principal Prof Suresh Sharma. This program was organized by the Cultural Committee, GS Cash Committee and Women Counseling Cell.
Under the supervision of Principal Prof Subash Chander Sharma various organs of GDC Udhampur organized myriad of programmes on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the NSS Units of Government SPMR College of Commerce organized a poster making and special lecture on the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”. Principal of the college RS Jamwal threw light on the importance of the day.
MC Khalsa College of Education celebrated International Women’s Day. On the occasion, the college released the project report. The institution started pilot project on the theme “Safety and Security of working and non working women” under three phases from 2018. The phases were panel discussion, symposium and essay competition. Dr Madhu Singh, Principal was honoured by the faculty and students for giving her remarkable services as head of the institution from the last 31 years. The presidential address was delivered by Harbans Singh, Former Minister and Chairman of the College.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, GCW Bhagwati Nagar organized a series of events. NSS Volunteers and faculty members distributed menstrual hygiene commodities among the women folk of the adopted village (Om Nagar). Various events like literacy programme, a seminar, etc were organized. Principal of the college Prof Minnie Sharma lauded the students for their efforts and enthusiasm.
Hassan Khoyihami Memorial Degree College Bandipora celebrated International Women’s Day on the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”. The program was organized by NSS Units of the college under the guidance of Principal Dr Mohd Amin Malik.
Women Development Cell of GDC Bishnah in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Authority Bishnah celebrated International Women’s Day. On the occasion, the chief guest was Munsiff Bishnah Asma Choudhary, Chairperson TLSA Bishnah. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by the Head of the Institution Dr Anuradha Pandoh.
