International Human Rights Day observed

JAMMU, Dec 10: International Human Rights Day was observed today by   various organizations and institutions, which organized awareness functions and drew attention towards the importance of human rights.
While observing the International Human Rights Day at its sub-office in Jammu, the State Human Rights Commission organized a function in which human right activists and prominent citizens participated.
During the deliberations held, IGP J&K SHRC Yoginder Koul and member Amolak Singh threw light on the observance of International Human Rights Day and also the functioning of SHRC.
In their speech, the participating human rights activists highly appreciated the role of SHRC.
On the International Human Rights Day, Panun Kashmir submitted a charter to the Human Rights bodies at global level.
The charter contains the plight of the sufferings of Kashmiri Pandits, Hindu minorities of Jammu, Buddhists of Ladakh and Sikh community of Kashmir. A copy of the charter was also sent to the human Rights Commission of India seeking its intervention in ameliorating the continued neglect and apathy of the Government towards the minorities of J&K State.
On the occasion, the Panun Kashmir president Ashwani Chrungoo and national spokesperson Virender Raina also paid tributes to the people who suffered enormous human rights violations.
Joint Human Rights Committee also submitted a charter of demands to the Chairman National Human Rights Commission seeking an end to political terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir so that extermination of Hindu minorities and other innocent people is stopped immediately and Kashmiri migrants can return to the homes in Valley.
The J&K Human Rights Watch (JKHRW) celebrated Human Rights Day by organizing a function, which was attended by the executive body members.
Speakers on the occasion threw light on importance of the day. The state chairman BL Kapoor said that the Human Rights are the actual basis of rules and laws. No law can be made in absence of human rights that are the main and essential features of the democratic set up.
Members of All India Human Rights Association in collaboration with Government Degree College Mendhar celebrated the Human Right Day. The SDM Mendhar   Romesh Kumar and Tehsildar Mendhar Dr Abdul Khabir were the chief guest and guest of honour, respectively.
The speakers appealed the public and student for maintaining the peace, love, and brotherhood so that the human Rights may be respected and protected.
Activist of Speak India Environmental Foundation and Jan Seva Sanstha, organized a seminar with the aim to celebrate the International Human Rights Day at Mahavir Vidya Mandir Higher Secondary School Govindsar Kathua.
Various social workers , NGO heads and  scholars  participated in the programme.  Chief guest  Prof Ram Murti Sharma, president Vikas Manch Kathua and  noted social activist Advocate Sushil Gupta, president  Kranti Dal spoke on the issue of human rights.
SOS International, an organization of PoK refugees, observed the day by organizing a function under the chairmanship of  Rajiv Chuni and paid tributes to the community members who became victims of the genocide during partition of the State.
Speakers on the occasion highlighted plights of the refugees and pledged to continue their struggle for  their human rights  Rajiv Chuni accused the Government of committing human right violations of   PoK refugees, who were provided no relief notwithstanding their worst condition.
NSS unit of KCS College of Education (Women) observed Human Rights Day by organizing a programme in the college premises.  Principal O P Sharma  delivered the key note address  while NSS volunteers  threw light on importance of the day.
In Baramulla, Human Aid Society (HAS) Kashmir- an NGO, held a peaceful protest rally against alleged rights violations in the state on Tuesday. Members of the organization assembled at its office headquarters near Ahmed Complex and took out a protest rally in which members of civil society, lawyers, volunteers, violence victims and children
participated. The rally concluded near the office of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla where a demonstration was held besides submitting a memorandum to the DC.
APDP observed the day by staging a protest dharna at Partap Park, Srinagar. The sit-in was joined by activists, volunteers, artists, poets, writers and other civil society members who collectively pledged to take forward the fight for justice, accountability and dignity.
