JAMMU, Dec 10: Academy of Art, Culture & Languages today organized a day-long short story reading session in different languages spoken in the State.
Prominent and upcoming short story writers of eight languages including Dogri, Gojri, Hindi, Kashmiri, Ladakhi, Pahari, Panjabi and Urdu presented their creative work before an invited audience comprising writers, poets and lovers of literature.
The unique event was held to afford a platform to writers of different languages to listen to and appraise each other’s creative work and also give an idea to the participants of the contemporary short story written in Jammu & Kashmir.
The session was jointly presided over by noted Dogri writer and critic, Prof Lalit Magotra and famous Urdu poet, Arsh Sehbayee. Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, was also present.
The function was divided into two sessions of four short stories each. In the first session, Dogri writer Chhatarpal read his short story Sapkunj, M. K. Waqar presented his Gojri short story titled Áadmi’, Kiran Bakhshi her Hindi short story, Loat Aaao Aroo and Mohi-ud-Din Reshi his Kashmiri short story, Wachh.
The second session saw Dr. Konchok Rigzin reading his Ladakhi short story, Ma Nying pu, Iqbal Nazish his Pahari short story,Jeni Jeine ji Mari Gayi, Surinder Neer her Punjabi short story, Lavasay and Ghulam Nabi Shahid his Urdu short story, Madawa.
In their speeches, both Dr. Lalit Magotra and Arsh Sehbayee described the short stories read out by the participant writers as representative creative works of the respective languages and appreciated them for beautifully touching upon contemporary issues with deft craftsmanship and treatment.
