JAMMU, Dec 10: International Human Rights Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal across Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on December 10. It commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year’s Human Rights Day theme is (Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Right) relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery efforts.
Under the guidance of Justice Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice (A) and Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services Authority and visionary leadership of Justice AM Magrey Executive Chairman LLSA, “National Human Rights Day” was observed by the Legal Services Authorities of both Union Territories through District Legal Services Authorities across all districts of UTs of J&K and Ladakh involving Para Legal Volunteers, Panel Lawyers and other stakeholders.
DLSA Jammu observed the day by organizing an awareness camp at District Court Complex where the participants were apprised of the importance of basic Human Rights which is necessary for the development of individual and the overall growth of the society.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jammu celebrated the World Human Rights Day under the chairmanship of Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman DLSA (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Jammu. The programme was attended by Judicial Officers, Public Prosecutors, Additional Public Prosecutors, Assistant Public Prosecutors, Advocates/ Retainer Lawyers, law students, Staff and Para Legal Volunteers. Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman, DLSA, Jammu outlined the aims, objectives and relevance of celebrating the day. Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Jammu briefed about the types of Human Rights. Jyoti Sharma, Master trainer, SLSA said Human Rights are protected by various laws, but are still violated by certain groups of people of the society. Deepali Arora, Panel Lawyer DLSA Jammu, presented the formal vote of thanks. Besides this the day was also celebrated by Tehsil Legal Services Committees, Akhnoor, Bishnah, and R.S Pura in their respective jurisdiction.
DLSA Reasi celebrated the day by organizing a webinar which was attended by Police Officers and Para Legal Volunteers of the District. The day was observed at Court Complex Katra where an awareness camp was organized and the importance of the day was highlighted.
DLSA Samba observed Human Rights Day by organizing an online capacity building programme. Para Legal Volunteers organized painting and slogan writing competitions involving children to make them aware about the concept and to promote their talent during the current pandemic. An awareness program was also organized at Purmandal for the tribal people by PLVs to sensitize them about their basic human rights.
DLSA Ramban observed “Human Rights Day” at Legal Aid Clinics of Rajgarh, Sangaldan and Ukhral where the PLVs made the people aware about the need to build back better by making the Human Right central to all recovery effort.
DLSA Kathua organized various awareness camps and painting competitions in observance of the day at various places. The day was observed by TLSCs of Billawar and Mahanpur where writing competitions and awareness programmes were organized in schools motivating the children to stand up against racism, hate, bullying and discrimination.
Human Rights Day was observed by DLSA Udhampur throughout the district at various places.
At Kaller, a programme was organized with slum dweller children who were enrolled in Anganwadi Centres and were also apprised about human rights. Besides, door to door campaigns were organized by PLVs to commemorate the day.
Human Rights Day was observed at Wyth Skill Development Centre by DLSA Kupwara where role of Legal Service Institutions, PLVs and Panel Lawyers as guardians of human rights was highlighted.
DLSA Anantnag organized a day long training programme of PLVs at the ADR Centre to make them understand Human Rights, issues confronting Human Rights and role of Legal Services Authorities in promoting and protecting the Human Rights of under privileged and marginalized sections.
DLSA Leh observed Human Rights Day by organizing legal awareness camps at Bogdhan and Diskit Nubra where the participants were made aware about the basic Human Rights essential to the existence of mankind.
The day was similarly observed by DLSAs of other districts across UT’s of J&K and Ladakh with enthusiasm. All precautions and safety norms were taken into consideration in the wake of pandemic while conducting the activities.
Department of Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu organised webinar to commemorate Human Rights Day under the patronship of Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor CLUJ. Mandeep Reen, Senior Advocate, J&K High Court and forthright human activist, was the resource person for the webinar. The webinar was chaired by Dr Sanjay Verma, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu. Dr. Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu formally welcomed the guests. Deans of Faculties, Coordinators of different wings, teaching fraternity and more than sixty students from PGI schools of CLUJ attended the webinar.
Childline Jammu Nodal Organization, Department of Law, University of Jammu celebrated Human Rights Day with children at Ward Number 32 Trilokpuri Jammu. During the event the children were aware about the protection against COVID-19. On this occasion Satpual Kalporia Corporator Jammu Municipal Corporation Ward Number 32 was the chief guest. The event was organized under the supervision of Nodal Director Childline /HoD Law Prof Kulwant Singh. The programme was coordinated by Rohit Khajuria Coordinator Childline Jammu. Others present on the occasion were Pinki Jain, Geeta Rakhwal and Shafquat Hussain (SOS Jammu).
A two day student orientation program on Human Rights organized by GDC Vijaypur (under the aegis of HED) concluded. Students from various colleges of Jammu Province participated in the event. The event was conducted under the supervision of the Principal of the College, Prof (Dr) Sangeeta Sudan and Renuka Kundal, HoD Political Science shared the screen as the resource person.
NSS Unit of GDC Khour celebrated Human Rights Day. On the occasion several online activities were undertaken. NSS volunteers and students of the college took the online Human Rights Pledge. Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document that proclaims the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being was read and discussed. An award winning short documentary on Human Rights was also shown to the students. The event was organised under the guidance of Principal of the college, Prof Hans Raj.
Government Degree College, Marh, celebrated Human Rights Day. Prof Aekta Gupta, Principal of College was the patron of the event. Dr Vimpal Sharma, HoD Department of Political Science delivered the lecture on the Human Rights and also explained about the theme which was adopted this year. Assistant Prof Satish Kumar, NSS Programme Officer also put some light on the importance of this day.
Science Club in collaboration of Cultural and Literary Committee of Government PG College Rajouri celebrated International Human Rights Day here today. On the occasion a seminar was organized under the chairmanship of College Principal Prof (Dr) Shakeel Ahmed Raina, in which various speakers threw light on different aspects of Human Rights and human duties. Dr Ashaq Malik Secretary of Science Club of the College was resource person on the occasion. Dr Sleem Wani from English Department and Fayaz Ahmad Chopan, Lecturer in Political Science also spoke on the occasion.
Government Degree College, Mahanpur conducted one-day awareness programme on Human Rights Day for the undergraduate students. The event was inaugurated by Principal Dr RK Koul. Paramdeep Singh, BDO Mahanpur was the chief guest. Dr Piyush Kant Sharma, Assistant Prof Political Science, GDC Akhnoor and Aditya Sharma, Assistant Prof GDC Majra Mahadev, Uttarakhand were the key online speakers of the event. An offline interactive awareness session was chaired by Dr Neetika Verma who dealt with the concept of “Human Rights Education” and human rights in socio-economic, cultural and political sphere.
NSS Unit of GDC Bishnah celebrated the day in the college premises. Dr Anuradha Pandoh, Principal was the chief guest on the occasion. Students from different semesters spoke on the occasion. Dr Seema Sudan threw light on the poetry of Ramdhari Singh Dinkar recited by Anmol Sharma. The programme was coordinated by Randheer Kour and Amit Sharma, NSS Programme Officer.
The Day was observed by DLSA Poonch by organizing a function in collaboration with Child Line. Children of Bal Ashram and Anwar-ul-Uloom attended the function during which Advocate Bhanu Pratap, general secretary Bar Association discussed the significance of Human Rights in simple words. The day was similarly observed by DLSAs of other districts across UTs of J&K and Ladakh, with enthusiasm.
On the occasion of World Human Rights Day, Indian Army drew a step closer in infusing a sense of bonding between security forces and local populace, with local Rashtriya Rifles Battalion imparting knowledge about basic Human and Fundamental Rights of individuals during a function organized at Pine Wood School, Sabra (Rajouri). The event was enthusiastically attended by locals from of Village Malikpura, Dharana, Rellan and Karla.
Jammu Kashmir Unity Foundation (JKUF) conducted a webinar on the International Human Rights Day. The main speakers in the webinar were Prof Madhu Kishwar, Editor Manushi, HR activists Jamil Maqsood and Sushil Pandit, Dr Ajay Chrungoo, chairman Panun Kashmir and Ajaat Jamwal, president, JK Unity Foundation. All the speakers urged the UN Human Rights Council to protect their rights from terrorist regime and save them from genocidal country i.e Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Bharat Scouts and Guides unit of Udhampur organized an awareness campaign on the occasion of World Human Rights Day during which students displayed placards bearing slogans and quotes regarding various human rights declared by United Nations. A quiz competition and symposium on human rights were also organized.
