International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking observed

JAMMU, June 26: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed here today.
Red Ribbon Club, GDC Nowshera in collaboration with J&K State AIDS Control Society organized various online activities to observe the day including poster making on the theme “Just Say No to Drugs”, slogan writing on “Life doesn’t Rewind, Say No to Drugs” and an inter-collegiate quiz on “Drugs and Alcohol Abuse”. In the poster making competition, the top 3 positions were claimed by students of GDC Nowshera namely Indu (BSc Sem II), Rachita Sharma (BSc Sem-IV) and Sonia Choudhary (BSc Sem-IV). In slogan writing contest, Vishal Singh Andotra (Sem-II) from GDC Billawar stood first, while the second position was shared by Gagandeep Choudhary (BSc Sem-IV) from GDC Nowshera and Anoo Radha (MSc Sem-I) from Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Punjab. The third place was claimed by Inderpal Kour (BA Sem-VI) from GDC Nowshera. All the toppers will be awarded e-certificates. All the activities were organized under the supervision of Dr Surinder Kumar, Principal of the College.
Red Ribbon Club of GCW Udhampur under the convenorship of Dr Kewal Kumar observed the day in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society. On this occasion, three different events were organized–a webinar on drug abuse and illicit Trafficking, online quiz competition on drug abuse and a slogan writing competition on drug abuse. Principal Prof Minu Mahajan was the chief guest on this occasion. Dr Rakesh Bahl Associate Professor was invited as a resource person. In slogan writing competition, Bulbul Matto (Sem-II) of GCW Udhampur secured first position while Gagandeep Choudhary (Sem-IV) of GDC Nowshera and Pratiksha Thakur (Sem-IV) of GCW Udhampur clinched second position and Priya Lakhnotra (Sem-II) of GDC Reasi scored 3rd position. All the participants have given e-certificates.
Red Ribbon Club, GDC Akhnoor organized one Day Webinar to observe the day on the theme “Better knowledge For Better Care”. About 50 participants including students and faculty of the college actively participated through Webex online platform. Principal of GDC Akhnoor Dr Namarta addressed the participants. The resource person of the event was Ajay Sharma, SDPO Akhnoor. E-certificates were sent to all the participants through their registered email ID.
Red Ribbon Club Government Degree College Mandi (Poonch) organized various online intra-collegiate activities to observe the day including poster making on the theme “Just say no to drugs”, slogan writing on “Life doesn’t rewind, say no to drugs” and essay writing on “Drug abuse/substance abuse”. In poster making competition, Tahira Niyazi, Afroza Shabir and Iram Akhter secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively and in slogan writing Naima Kouser and Afroza Shabir secured 1st and 2nd positions respectively. In essay writing competition, Waseem Akram and Mohammed Asdullah secured first and second positions respectively. Position holders in all the evens were awarded e-certificate.
On the eve of “International day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, Red Ribbon Club of Government College for Women Bhagwati Nagar organized intra-college online poster making and slogan writing activity. The event was organised under the leadership of Principal Prof Minnie Sharma. A large number of students participated in the event expressing their drawing skills and knowledge about the topic. All the entries were displayed in the form of collage by the participants.
Department of Sociology, Government Degree College Katra organized Inter-College Online Poster Making Competition to observe the day. The competition was held under the guidance of Dr CK Khajuria, Principal, GDC Katra. The students from various Degree Colleges have participated in the competition. E-certificates were given to the best ten participants. Sonia Choudhary from GDC Nowshera secured first position, Simran Devi from GDC Katra secured 2nd position and Gurpreet Kour from MC Khalsa College of Education Jammu got 3rd position.
Government Degree College Banihal organized webinar to observe the day under the mentorship of Dr Manohar Lal, Principal of the college. On the occassion, the keynote speakers were Shah-e-Jahan Ganie, Associate Professor of English and Dr Shafiq Ahmed Katoch, Senior Assistant Professor of Urdu of the college. Ten students participated in speech competition, wherein Danish Rafiq of BA Sem 1 won the speech competition.
NCC Unit of Government College for Women Udhampur under the guidance of Principal of the College, Prof. Minu Mahajan, organized a poster-making competition to observe the day. All the work was done by the cadets from home. In the poster-making competition, Stuti Sharma stood first, Mansi Sharma stood second and Anjali stood third.
NSS/NCC Units of Government Degree College Udhampur organized an online intra-college poster making competition under the guidance of Principal of the College Prof Subhash Chander Sharma. A large number of NSS volunteers and NCC cadets of the College participated in the poster making and video making competition on the topic “Say No to Drug”. The first position went to Kritika whereas second position was shared by Simran Kour and Manisha Devi and third position was shared by Rohit Kumar and Khushi Jaswal. Four consolation prizes were bagged by Vansh Bakshi, Harshika Slathia, Sonali Bharti and Renu Rajput.
To mark the day, GDC Vijaypur under the supervision of its Principal Dr Sangeeta Sudan organized inter college digital poster making and slogan writing competitions. In the digital poster making competition, Gurpreet Kour from MC Khalsa College of Education, Vijay Kumar from GCET Jammu and Tamanna Sharma from GCW Gandhi Nagar stood first, second and third respectively. In the slogan writing competition, Taniya Rajput from GDC Jourian, Leepika Sharma from MAM PG College and Anjali Sharma from GDC Marheen bagged first, second and third position respectively.
NSS Unit and Red Ribbon Club of GLDM Degree College Hiranagar observed the day under the guidance of Principal Prof Kuldeep Singh Koushal. On this occasion an online Poster Making Competition was also organised. Nodal Officer of the ‘Red Ribbon Club, Prof. Rakesh Sharma supervised the programme.
To mark the day, Red Ribbon Club of GDC Padder conducted online intra collegiate poster making competition. A large number of students participated in this activity. Narinder Singh of 1st semester bagged first position, while Ekta Devi and Preeti Devi of Semester 1st bagged second and third positions respectively. Principal and faculty members were present on the occasion.
Government Degree College Pouni organized digital poster making competition on the theme “Quit Drugs, Choose Life” under the guidance of Principal Prof Rajni Bhagat. In the competition, Nazia Akhter of GDC Ramkote and Muktesh Bhagat of Dogra Law College bagged first prize, while Deepanshi Abrol of GDC Pouni, Arti Devi of GDC Akhnoor and Rohit Sharma of GDC Pouni bagged second, third and fourth positions respectively. Taniya Sharma of GDC Pouni and Poonam Devi of BMS Institute of Paramedical Sciences stood fifth in the competition.
On the eve of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Government Degree College Kilhotran organized an inter-college online essay writing competition and awareness program. Online essay writing competition was organized on the theme of “Drug Abuse & Their Illicit Trafficking”. The entire event was organized under the supervision of College Principal Prof (Dr) Javid Iqbal.
Government Degree College, Chenani invited chats, blogs and comments on the Facebook page of the College to mark the day. The program ushered a healthy conversation on the platform with around 1700 people reaching the page and over 150 involved in healthy chatting and blogging on the topic. Dr Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College declared that the best thoughts presented on the forum shall be given a distinct space on the College Wall Magazine along with the name and identity of the person.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Thannamandi observed the day. In this connection a poster making and slogan writing competition were organized in which 75 students of the college Participated. The first five toppers among both the poster making and slogan writing will receive certificates and will be awarded mementoes in the College’s Annual Day. The entire programme was conducted under the supervision of Principal of the College Prof (Dr) JA Qazi.
NSS Unit of Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur organized national level e-quiz competition on “International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking ” in collaboration with Department of Environmental Sciences and also an intra-college poster making and slogan writing competition in collaboration with Regional Transport Office under the stewardship of ARTO, Rachna Sharma, Udhampur. The events were conducted under the supervision of Principal of the college Dr SK Magotra. The theme of the poster making and slogan writing competitions was “Drugs Usage and Driving–A Curse”. The first winner of both the competitions was Oshin Singh of VI sem, second winner was Anjli Sharma of II Sem and third winner was Suhasani of VI sem.
Awareness webinar on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was organized by Punjab Police, Patiala and Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, near Chandigarh. SSP, Patiala, Mandeep Singh Sidhu was the chief guest, while Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group was the moderator on the webinar. Parminder Kaur, Project Director, IRCA, Saket Hospital, Patiala, Amritpal Singh, Counselor, Anti Drug Addiction Centre, Patiala, Mary, Counselor, Anti Drug Centre, Red Cross, Patiala and Inspector, Pushpa Devi, Police Education Cell, Patiala were the speakers on the occasion.
J&K Legal Services Authority observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with the theme of ‘Better Knowledge for Better Care’. The day was commemorated by organizing an online awareness programme in association with Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Academy on the topic “Expanding boundaries of Legal Services Beyond Just Say No to Drugs; Prevention, Awareness and Rehabilitation”. The progamme was conducted under the guidance of Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Justice Gita Mittal, who is also Patron-in-Chief of J&K SLSA and under the supervision of Justice Rajesh Bindal, who is Executive Chairman of the authority. Arul Verma, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Central Delhi and Dr Rajesh Kumar, Executive Director, SPYM were the resource persons in the Webinar who dealt with various aspects of the problem of drug abuse prevalent in the society. The proceedings of the programme were coordinated by MK Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K SLSA and Rajeev Gupta, Director, J&K Judicial Academy. Dr Rajesh Kumar, Founder and Executive Director of Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM) was also present on the occasion.
Directorate of School Education Kashmir observed the day. Online discussions and webinars were organized in all districts in which more than 1.5 lakh students and 30 thousand teachers were connected online across Kashmir division. On the occasion, Principal Secretary School Education and Skill Development, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon gave away prizes to the students toppers who participated in online essay writing and painting competitions organized by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir. Earlier, Director School Education Kashmir Mohammad Younis Malik gave a detailed presentation on the scenario of substance abuse at global, country and UT level.
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed by Drugs and Food Control Organisation, Jammu. Amidst the post COVID-19 precautions, awareness camps were organised in Jammu and other districts under the supervision of respective Assistant Drugs Controller which were attended by the representatives of Trade Fraternity and they were impressed upon to inculcate the awareness regarding ill effects of Drug Addiction amongst the ignorant masses. Pamphlets/ Signage disseminating important information about drug abuse were circulated through social media platforms like watts app and were also pasted at prominent places in the Chemist Shops. The members of the Chemist Association were impressed upon to dispense pharmaceutical preparations comprising of habit forming ingredients strictly under rules to the needy patients. Lotika Khajuria, UT Drugs Controller expressed her views.
To observe the day, a rally and awareness campaign was organized by JKAP-7th Battalion at Armed Police Complex Channi Himmat Jammu under the supervision of Suneel Raj, SSP, Commandant JKAP 7th Battalion.
Seeking support of the civil society to eradicate menace of drug abuse, Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that cooperation of every section of the society is must to liberate our younger generation from the yoke of drug addiction. “We have to accept this reality that drugs are slowly tightening grip on the youth of the State. It is high time to start a deciding war against this menace”, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said while addressing a function organized by the Team Jammu in connection with the World Anti-Drug Day at Shakti Nagar. Among others who addressed the gathering included Rajesh Kapoor, Atul Sudan, Vice-President JJSF, Karan Deep Singh Lucky, social activist, Jagdish Kargotra, general secretary, Vishav Karma Sabha, Vikram Chib, Sanjay Verma, Advocate Zorawar Singh, Surinder Sharma, Vasudev Singh, Ashok Kumar, Suchet Singh, Sushant Kumar and Sushil Kumar.
In order to sensitize the youth about the ill effects of drugs, cyclists of Bicycle for Change Group namely Sunil Sharma, Lukesh Sharma, Prakhar Baskotra, Arush Manotra, Varun Pathak, Ravi Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, Mitual Mahajan, Avinash Singh Chib, Shubam Sharma, Rahul Sharma, Suraj and Pankaj Sapolia organized a ride, which started from Kathua stadium and concluded at Dreamland Park.
Three day long programme organized by JKSPYM to observe the day concluded here. On the concluding day, JKSPYM organized lunch for addicts and their families at their centre in Gole Pully, Talab Tillo. JKSPYM Secretary Rakesh Kumar and the whole team of JKSPYM were present on the occasion.
On the eve of “International Day against Drug Abuse”, District Police Jammu in coordination with Police Hospital and Kotli Colony Welfare Trust (KCWT) organized a blood donation camp at District Police Line Jammu. Shridhar Patil, SSP Jammu inaugurated the camp along with SP Headquarters Raja Adil Ahmed and DySP DAR Mohammad Hameed.
To observe the day, District Police Reasi under the guidance and supervision of SSP Reasi Rashmi organized an anti-drug awareness programme at Sports Stadium Reasi in which students, educationists and others participated. Later, a function was organized at Conference Hall DPL Reasi in which Kamlesh Pandita, District Principal and Sessions Judge Reasi and Anjum Aara, Sub Judge Reasi interacted with supervisory officers and Investigating Officers and briefed them about the technicalities required to be undertaken during investigation of NDPS cases. The programme was organized under the supervision of Dr Wasim Hamdani, DySP Headquarters Reasi and Mumtaz Ali Bhatti DySP DAR DPL Reasi and assisted by Inspector Ravi Kumar, Incharge SHO Police Station Reasi.
Samba Police observed the International Day against “Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking” at District Police Headquarters Samba and in all subordinate units of Samba Police across the District. SSP Samba Shakti K Pathak in his video message advised the parents to pay keen attention to the problems being faced by their wards and do not put any psychological pressure upon them which could attract them towards drug menace. Samba Police organized drug awareness campaign. Besides this, at Police Station level, banners and placard on drug abuse were displayed at prominent public places. Additional Superintendent of Police Samba, DySP DAR Chabbil Singh, DySP Headquarter Samba Tilak Raj Bhardwaj and SHO Samba Inspector Rajesh Jasrotia were among others present on the occasion.
District Jail Kathua observed World Day against Drugs and Illicit Trafficking. During the programme inmates as well as staff spoke about the causes, prevention, and treatment of drug abuse menace, and inmates took pledge that they will not fall in the menace. Lecturer Hardeep Singh deputed in District Jail Kathua from Education Department and Superintendent Jail District Jail Mushtaq Ahmed Malla also informed inmates about causes, ill effects and treatment of d addiction and efforts they are doing in jail to help inmates in this regard.
On the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, an awareness camp was organized at IRP-11th Battalion Headquarters in DPL Anantnag. The awareness camp was organized in conjunction with the resource persons from Drug De-addiction Centre DPL Anantnag. The resource persons namely Mudasir Aziz and Kounsar Wani highlighted the magnitude of this problem, the reasons for people for taking to drugs and the breaking down of the checks and balances prevalent in the society. Sandeep Mehta CO IRP 11th Battalion was also present on the occasion.
International Day against Drug Abuse was observed by Directorate of School Education Jammu in collaboration with UNICEF India by organising a webinar on Safeguarding Children of J&K from substance abuse. Anuradha Gupta, Director School Education Jammu addressed the students. Dr Vinod Dhar, Psychiatrist and Deaddiction Specialist, HELP Rehabilitation Home, Dr Gurmeet Kour, Psychiatrist and De-addiction Specialist, Police Hospital Jammu, Dr Syed Karar, Child Psychiatrist, IMHANS, Dr Muzaffar Khan, Director-Youth Development Centre, J&K Police and Romesh Sharma, Head, Counselling Cell DSEJ were the key speakers on the occasion.
