JAMMU, Nov 18: The three-day 8th annual international conference of the Comparative Education Society of India (CESI) 2017, on the theme “Criticality, Empathy and Welfare in Contemporary Educational Discourses” concluded here today at Jammu University.
Prof Dhruv Raina, Director, Northern Region Centre, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), who is also an eminent professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, delivered the valedictory address at the concluding function while Prof Riyaz Punjabi, Padam Shri, former Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir, chaired the function.
Delivering his valedictory address, Prof Raina threw light on various dimensions of multidisciplinary, inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary approaches in teaching and research. Underlining the fact that the public has lost its faith on the expert knowledge, Prof Raina said academia need to regain that faith and it is possible only through multidisciplinary, inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary approaches.
Prof Riyaz Punjabi, in his address, said it was a very important conference as it dealt with contemporary issues in education. “As we are moving towards privatization of education, this issue would be debated all over the country in the days to come, he said and added that the issue of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary have been in discussion for a long time among the academia and these approaches have been raising the eyebrows in the academia everywhere.
Prof. Renu Nanda, local organizing secretary of CESI-2017 and Head, Department of Education, JU, while reading the summary of the three days’ proceedings of the conference, informed that a total of 33 sessions, other than inaugural and valedictory were held in these three days. She also informed that a total of 133 participants presented research papers.
Earlier, Dr Monica Gupta, general secretary of CESI, gave brief introduction about CESI. Dr S Srinivasa Rao, CESI vice-president, also spoke at the valedictory session. Dr Monica Gupta, general secretary CESI, presented vote of thanks.
About 33 parallel technical sessions were held during three day conference on different broad sub-themes.
