JAMMU, June 6: To further strengthen passenger safety and smooth train operations, Northern Railway, Jammu Division is undertaking a major technical upgrade at Bajalta, due to which some trains will remain cancelled or regulated from June 7 to June 11, 2026.
An advanced Electronic Interlocking system will be commissioned at Bajalta station on the Jammu Tawi – Udhampur section along with BPCL/IOCL/HPCL’s CUF railway siding.
With Electronic Interlocking, operation of signals and points will become fully computer-controlled. This will make train movement faster, safer and free from human error. Also, the new railway siding being built at Bajalta will further improve fuel supply in Jammu & Kashmir.
Due to the interlocking work, Train Nos. 74909, 74910, 74907 etc will remain fully cancelled from June 8 to June 10, while Train No. 74906 will remain cancelled from 9 June to 11 June.
Trains running late on the route, will include Train No. 22461, 14609, 12445, 15656, 12919 and 12475.
Passengers have been requested to plan their journey as per train status and check the latest train position before travel through 139 helpline, NTES app or station enquiry.
Meanwhile, the efforts of Northern Railway, Jammu Division to deliver Jammu & Kashmir’s world-famous cherry to consumers across the country quickly and safely are yielding results as more than 111 tons of cherry has been successfully transported to different parts of the country so far through SLR/VP-based rail transport from Jammu and Katra.
With the objective of ensuring better prices for farmers and orchardists and reducing transportation costs, Jammu Division is providing special rail rakes. For perishable products like cherry, SLR and VP coaches are being used, which ensures safe delivery in less time. Booking, loading and cold chain facilities are being provided by Railways at Jammu and Katra railway stations, so that farmers face no inconvenience.
Regarding this initiative, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal said, “SLR/VP-based transport is not only saving time but also increasing farmers’ income. Jammu Division will continue to provide special facilities and quick booking arrangements for horticulture produce in the future as well, so that the resolve of ‘Farm to Market’ can be realized.”
