Inter-state drug rackets busted, 10 arrested with narcotics worth lakhs

JAMMU, Aug 29: Police have busted an inter-state drug rackets and arrested 10 smugglers with narcotics worth lakhs in three separate incidents here.
“In continuation to ‘Operation Sanjeevani’, a special drive against drug has already been launched by police and a major success has been achieved by busting three inter-state drug rackets in a single day”, Sunil Gupta, SSP Jammu while interacting with media persons this afternoon.
He informed that in three separate incidents police have recovered drugs of multi lakhs in international market.
SSP stated that three vehicles bearing registration numbers MH31AH-0171, JK07-0235 and JK03E-1763 were intercepted late last night at Trikuta Nagar, adding that the drivers on seeing the police tried to escape but were nabbed and during frisking 15 kg of charas was recovered from the vehicles and five persons were arrested.
The arrested persons were identified as Suraj Parkash, son of Ram Lal and Altaf Ahmed, son of Hazar Shah, both residents of Mumbai, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Tanmarg Baramulla, Mohammad Amin, son of Ali Mohammad and Mohammad Sultan, son of Abdul Rehman, both residents of Bijbehara, District Anantnag, Kashmir.
A case under FIR Number 167/16 under Section 8/20/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Bahu Fort and further investigation into the case is going on.
Meanwhile, during patrolling on National Highway near Bambyal Morh in Nagrota area on city outskirts, a Maruti car bearing registration number JK13A-8481 was intercepted and found three persons in suspicious circumstances.
“On their checking, 7 packets of charas weighing approximately 3.5 kg were recovered from their possession and seized on spot”, SSP said, adding that trio persons were arrested, who have been identified as Bharat Bhushan, son of Sita Ram of Raipur Bantalab, Aqib Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Majeef Mir and Ghulam Nabi Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, both residents of of Bijbehara, District Anantnag, Kashmir.
A case under FIR Number 175/16 under Section 8/20/29 narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Nagrota and investigation started.
However, two drug peddlers were apprehended from Transport Nagar here with 150 bottles of banned syrup from a truck bearing registration number JK02AE-5888, Dr Gupta stated.
The drug peddlers have been identified as Sanjay Sharma, son of Bishan Dass and Raj Kumar Sharma, son of Jai Paul Sharma, both residents of District Udhampur, he said, adding that a case under relevant Sections has been registered against them at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation started.
Police teams led by SHO Trikuta Nagar Inspector Bharat Sharma, SHO Nagrota Inspector Karan Chalotra and Incharge Narwal police post SI Waseem Mehraj made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta, SDPO Rural Amit Sharma, SP South Shaazad Salaria and SP Rural Arun Gupta.
