Inter-state drug peddlers arrested with poppy straw

JAMMU, Mar 27: Gandhi Nagar police arrested two inter-state drug peddlers along with poppy straw.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gandhi Nagar police station laid a naka near Ashok Nagar area and asked two pedestrians coming towards Digiana from Satwari Chowk.
On seeing police cops, the persons tried to escape, but the cops intercepted them after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered four kilograms poppy straw from the possession of the persons and arrested them.
The accused have been identified as Bishamber Lal alias Shambi, son of Thakur Dass and Jatinder, son of Sukhdev, both residents of Punjab.
During preliminary questioning, it came to fore that the accused had purchased the consignment from Kashmir at Rs 1800 per kilograms and used to sell it is Jammu and Punjab at Rs 8000 per kilograms among the youth and other people of the society thereby spreading the menace of drugs in the society.
A case under FIR Number 61/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psycho-tropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Gandhi Nagar and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Ritesh Sambyal and assisted by ASI Subash Chander made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
