JAMMU, May 25: Ex Mayor Jammu, Rajinder Sharma today demanded intensification of drive against the narco terrorism in the UT of J&K and action under law against those politicians and bureaucrats who allowed this illicit trade to thrive over the years.
Talking to reporters during a protest held against the drug trafficking in the UT of J&K here, today, Sharma said that the trade of drugs has spoiled the people of J&K and strong action needs to be taken against those indulging in this illegal trade.
He though lauding the Lt Governor, J&K for launching a decisive war against the drug traffickers, stressed that more strong steps are needed to be taken to weed out this menace from the society completely. Click here to watch video
Rajinder Sharma who along with ex corporators of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) held a strong protest said Parliamentary Standing Committee in its report has said that five lakh people have become victims of narcotics and one lakh people have lost their lives. He said going through these figures the narcotic trade is much more dangers and creates even many times more devastation than a full-fledged war. Hence it needs to be weeded out completely to save the precious lives of the youth who are the future of the country.
Sharma said alone seven, eight people died in his Ward due to drug addiction. Same is the case with other wards in the UT, he added and sought cooperation of all to make the crusade against the Narco terrorism a success.
He said the six people who were arrested for their involvement in narco trade be kept in security zone as there is every apprehension that they will be eliminated by the big tycoons running this illegal trade to save themselves.
He said there are 13 agencies in the country dealing against the narco trade and wanted to know what they have been doing all these years till this menace spread entire UT. The politicians and bureaucrats who facilitated this trade to spread be tried and dealt under law strongly.
