Installation of Maharaja Gulab Singh’s statue demanded

JAMMU, July 11: Civil society, intellectuals and prominent citizens of Jammu have demanded installation of statue of Maharaja Gulab Singh at Kunjwani Chowk and Lakhanpur.
The demand was made during a one-day conference, organized by NPP chief patron Prof Bhim Singh for discussing current political situation in the State.
Prominent persons representing various schools of thought, social and intellectual groups actively participated in the meeting which unanimously passed the resolution moved by MLC, Syed Mohd Rafiq Shah to install the statue of the founder of the J&K State Maharaja Gulab Singh at Kunjwani Chowk Jammu and Lakhanpur at the earliest since it has been the long pending demand of Jammu people.
The meeting was also attended by Harshdev Singh, MLA and Chairman JKNPP, Balwant Singh Mankotia MLA and president NPP, Yashpaul Kundal, MLA and general secretary, Syed Mohd Rafiq Shah, MLC and President Young Panthers, Anita Thakur and H C Jalmeria (general secretaries) besides other senior leaders of the party.
The members of the civil society who attended the meeting and supported the resolution included  Judge (Retd) Pavitar Singh, Prof  Hari Om, Narayan Singh (president Rajput Sabha) , Gen  (Retd) Jagdish Singh Jamwal, Gen (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Gen (Retd) R S  Jamwal, Prof (Dr) D L  Choudhary, Prof. Rita Jitender, Prof  Virender Gupta, DIG (Retd) Anoop Singh Slathia, Dr. Jitender Udhampuri IBS, Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Harbans Nogokay, Gurjeet Singh and others.
