INSPIRE Science Internship begins at SMVDU

KATRA, July 22:  Five-day Science Internship Camp, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), began today at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
The camp, titled, “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)”, started with the INSPIRE expository lecture by Prof  Sudhir Kumar Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVD University on  the topic “Innovation and patents how and why”.
Prof Jain introduced the participants the area and explained how innovations have taken place progressively which greatly impacted our lives. He exhorted the attendees to gain know how of IPR and patents which would be greatly beneficial to them in general and country in particular in years to come.
Prof Jain thanked DST, GOI for having conceptualized such unique scheme which is going to help achieve self-reliance in the area of indigenization in years to come in the area of R&D and Technology Development.
Lt  Gen  Subrata Shaha, GoC-in-C, 15 Corps, Srinagar,  delivered a scintillating talk titled “Technology as a driver for the future battle field” to the participants. He introduced the attendees to the importance of advancements in defence equipment that have taken place in recent years. He also spoke about the future developments that we are going to see in near future. He stressed that India is now rightly poised to develop latest technologies locally and young and future scientists would have a big role to play in the whole process.
Prof  S  K  Dogra, FNASc from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur,  delivered a lecture.  Later an exhibition on plants and products was put on display by Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM-Jammu). Dr S K Wanchoo, Director I/c SICD and PI informed that a battery of eminent scientists and National awardees shall be mentoring the attendees in next five days.
INSPIRE is an innovative program of DST for attraction of talent to science.
