Inept admn failed to act well in time: Manohar

KATHUA, Aug 21: General secretary PCC and former Minister, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma accused the administration for not taking premetive measures to avert the landslide and shifting the people of Mohra Chuhara village in Panchayat Uchha Pind of tehsil Ramkote to safer places despite the matter was brought in the notice of Revenue authorities by the Sarpanch of the concerned Panchayat that the land is slipping for last 10 days in the area.
In a statement issued here today Dr Manohar Lal expressed concern over the callousness of the Revenue authorities towards the hapless  people saying had it taken the premetive measures from very beginning the massive land slides in the area could have been averted.
He said it was due to the sheer callousness of the authorities that yesterday a massive landslide took place at Morha  Chuhara village and Panchayat Uchha Pind Tehsil Ramkot sub div Billawar distt. Kathua in which 40 families were affected and about 40 residential houses and one Government school was completely damaged. The tragedy occurred at night at about 8 PM but it is a matter of great concern that the land slipping slowly since the last ten days as told by the Sarpanch Panchayat Halqa Uchha Pind, Puran Chand Sharma but authorities showed no concern for the same despite the matter was brought in the notice of concerned revenue authorities by him immediately after the reports of land slipping came.
The people expressed resentment against local administration and Government and blocked Dhar road today for three and half hours at Poungran, he added.
Dr Manohar Lal Sharma   expressed full sympathy with the affected families. He assured the affected families that he will take up the matter with the highest authorities for their all possible help and early rehabilitation in safer place.
Dr Sharma also took up the matter with the Divisional Commissioner Jammu for his immediate intervention urging him that the affected people be provided immediate shelter.
Dr Sharma further demanded compensation to the affected families at par the compensation paid in Kashmir Valley. He also demanded that people be provided tents, ration and all possible medical help at an earliest.
