India’s Ambassador to Spain, DG NCC, CGM NABARD call on Governor

SRINAGAR, June 1: Vikram Misri, India’s Ambassador to Spain, called on Governor N N Vohra, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Ambassador Misri informed the Governor about the various areas of mutual interest in which Spanish expertise could benefit developmental and manufacturing ventures in J&K, some of which could be collaborative. In this context, the Ambassador informed the Governor about various possibilities and particularly those which could promote tourism management and upgradation of saffron cultivation systems.
Maj. Gen. J.S. Sandhu, Officiating DG NCC, accompanied by Maj. Gen. S.S Jakhar, ADG, NCC Directorate J&K also called on Governor.
DG NCC briefed the Governor about future expansion of the NCC in J&K and the urgent need for the State Government according the required clearances for the new NCC Group being established.
Observing that the NCC is an excellent organization which inculcates discipline and the spirit of camaraderie and resilience, the Governor stressed the need for the maximum possible number of boys and girls from J&K getting enrolled in the NCC. He assured the DG that the pending issues would be early discussed and get settled by the State Higher Education Department and, meanwhile, the NCC must remain ready to enlarge their network in J&K.
Vijay Kumar, Chief General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), J&K Regional Office, Jammu also called on Governor.
Mr. Kumar briefed the Governor about the ongoing activities of NABARD in Jammu and Kashmir and the sources which are available for various rural infrastructure development schemes, particularly rural road connectivity, construction of bridges, primary health centers and school buildings, irrigation and flood control sectors which are among the thrust areas of the NABARD funding in the State.
The Governor emphasized that, keeping in view the vast potential for promotion and diversification of agriculture and allied sectors, which exists in J&K, there is urgent need for the Agriculture and Rural Development Departments to take time bound initiatives, along with all other stakeholders, to avail of all available resources to boost the development of these sectors which shall, in turn, promote the economy and generate employment avenues in the State.
