India, Pak hold flag meet on LoC, ensure peace on border

JAMMU:  India and Pakistan today held a flag meeting on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

Both the forces held deliberations and ensured peace on the border.  “A Battalion Commander level flag meeting was held this morning at Chakan Da Bagh in Poonch sector to take forward the peace process initiated since the Brigade Commander level flag meeting of  September 21,  2015,”

Col S D Goswami, defence spokesperson, Ministry of Defence here said. He said that the representatives of the two nations deliberated on the recent ceasefire violations in Poonch sector.        “In the meeting which lasted for nearly 30 minutes, the ‘Colonel’ ranked officers leading the respective delegations acknowledged each other’s efforts in maintaining peace and tranquility on the LoC in the recent past,” he asserted.

The spokesman said that both sides mutually agreed on the importance of exercising restraint on the LoC and keeping the communication alive through established reconciliation mechanism of exchange of hotline messages and flag meetings.

“The flag meeting ended on a positive note and both sides reaffirmed their faith in ensuring everlasting peace and tranquility on the LoC by redressing mutual concerns on priority in the future,” said the Colonel. (UNI)
