India can meet twin threat

Brij Bhardwaj
India has faced combined threat of Pakistan and China for decades and today we have acquired modern weapons and our ability has improved. India has not only imported modern fighter planes like Rafale but has also developed and built aircraft carrier undergoing trials and tested intercontinental missiles with capability to hit targets in China.
In addition India has been quietly working to build roads and other infrastructure in Ladakh as well as in North East. China first tried to advance in Ladakh region but met with strong resistance followed by Indian forces occupying heights which made any advance by Chinese almost impossible. As a result the Chinese came to negotiation table and have agreed to restore status quo in many areas.
The Twang Monestry is held in great esteem by Buddhists and plays an important role in selection of Dalai Lama. Chinese are aware of the fact that without Dalai Lama endorsement there hold on Tibet or surrounding area like Arunachal, Sikkim and Bhutan can never be a reality.
Indian forces through their vigilance and determination have made sure that Chinese are not able to advance. In the entire region, Chinese have been very active. They have built new roads, developed villages. Satellite pictures show what Chinese have done in the area and increased capability to attack Indian side. It is also in line with China becoming aggressive in different regions of the world.
They have announced their right to use force to capture Formosa. AS a result of Chinese threats, Japan which had been following Pacific policies after Second World War of building a small army only for self defence has announced biggest increase in defence budget. Countries like Japan, Vietnam and others also face threat from China. The world superpower USA have declared their support for India. We have also changed a lot and China has felt the difference when it tried to occupy new territory in Ladakh or in North East. Indian army can match them and give them a bloody nose. We are importing what we need but also developed indigenous capacity and are exporting defence equipment in large quantity.
The need of the hour is for the nation to unite and face the threat from China and Pakistan. We need not worry because of wild allegations by Pakistan or Chinese attempt at needling us. We are a matured democracy, a fast growing nation and should deal with them in a cool manner. As chief of group of twenty India has enough goodwill and support in the world to meet any threats from China and Pakistan a failed nation.
There have been cries for stopping trade with China which is a major trade partner of India. We should keep in mind that despite conflicts as has been case Europe or Asia no one has stopped trade. The hard fact is that world has become global village where trade brings mutual benefit. We have to be careful to protect our strategic interest but no purpose will be served by cutting off trade totally which will hurt us also besides China.
India has a stable economy, a stable Government and strong force to defend the nation. So there is no need to panic. Only thing which can damage us is lack of unity as a nation or lack of confidence in our ability.
