He said independent and responsible journalism can lead in building a healthy society.
He said for last 10 to 12 years Narad Jayanti is celebrated all over country and in J&K also. It was once said that any issue given to RSS they link it with Puranas and Hindu culture.
There are people who even do not have any concept about Hindu Nawvarsh (new year) and for them the New Year begins from January first. “I once greeted a person on Bhartiya Nawvarsh during a function at Haryana and he was astonished saying three months have gone and you are now giving me New Year greetings”. He said “it is scientific age and you are still talking of Puranic period”. The world has become Global village. This is the concept of some people in India which needs to be changed, he added.
Narad was a first reporter and this fact was established in Eighteenth century. While launching the Hindustan Samachar Sarojni Naidu had said “I pay obeisance to Naradjee and pray him to grant us courage to tread on path shown by him”.
Arun Kumar said It is unfortunate that we are suffering from memory loss. Britain has framed a policy to rule India for centuries and expand Christianity here.
They tried to divide Indians through education. “It is because of these policies that we started first word in Constitution “India that is Bharat”, he added.
Stressing on maintaining self esteem to face all such challenges, he said the journalists have to play a key role in this respect.
Referring to JNU episode, he said it has shaken us all. Indian nationality has started after independence. Is nationality concept against any community, religion or region, he asked?.
Our concept of nationality is totally different and we are for world peace, amity and brotherhood”, he added.
“We gave freedom to every religion in flourishing their concept of religion in India and never created any impediment in their way of worship etc, because our concept is not a narrow concept”, he said.
Arun Kumar said media is an important medium for bringing people together and bridging the gap between the people because it works as perception builder.
He said a lot of responsibility lies on media as it has to make India a guiding force for entire world.
Journalists consider Narad Rishi an inspiration for them. While Chankya was an inspiration for politicians and Lord Rama was inspiration for kings and rulers.
He highlighted the role of journalists in the present changing world order also.
K B Jandial former member PSC who presided over the function on the occasion threw light on role of media in modern times.
He said the media is a link between Government and people and it plays an important role in this regard.
He however highlighted various constraints being faced by the media also. He stressed that media should publish stories based on truth and facts.
On the occasion some journalists were given awards. They included senior journalist and president Press Club, Ashwani Kumar, Photo journalist, Daily Excelsior, Rakesh Bakshi, Surinder Sharma, Raj Billoria, female reporter, Nirmal Vikram and young journalist Nidhi Sharma. They were honoured for their services in the field of journalism.
The welcome address was read by Dr Satya Dev president Trikuta Samavad while senior journalist Udhey Baskar proposed vote of thanks.
