JAMMU, July 14: Independent Corporators of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today blamed Jammu Municipal Corporation for damages caused to the houses in various localities of Jammu City by flood caused by recent rains.

Addressing a press conference at Councilor Hall, Town Hall Jammu, the Independent Corporators said due to heavy rainfall on day before yesterday, heavy losses have been reported from different locations of Jammu city, especially Kalika Colony, Nanak Nagar, Gangyal, Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Vikram Chowk, Rajeev Nagar, Chhanni Rama, Preet Nagar, Digiana, Gadigarh, Jeevan Nagar, Talab Tillo and Bhagwati Nagar.
They said the flood water entered into the houses at various locations. “About 10 houses were damaged at Kalika Colony (Bahu Fort),” they said, adding, same type of flood occurred at Kalika Colony on August 26 last year and after that estimates were prepared well in time but work could not be started in time. All Independent Corporators criticized the JMC for not taking timely and prompt action regarding de-silting of nallahs, reconstruction of nallahs and sanitation of city.
Other important issues raised in the press conference were lack of funding to JMC, poor drainage system of Jammu city, reconstruction of houses damaged due to flood. They demanded the Government to grant special package for improving drainage system, constructing ‘nallahs’ and giving financial help to people affected due to flood. The Independent Corporators also sought appointment from LG Manoj Sinha to apprise him of problems being faced by people of Jammu.
Those who addressed the press conference were Sham Lal Basson, Ashok Singh Manhas, Prof Yudhvir Singh, Sucha Singh, Inder Singh Sudan, Sandhya Gupta, Anita Sharma, Amit Gupta and Jagdish Raj Sharma.
