SAMBA, Aug 26: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) senior leader and former minister Manjit Singh today appealed to the Government to take steps for improving living standard of scheduled caste people by providing them facilities and include them in Below Power Line (BPL).
Expressing this concern over the plight of the downtrodden section of society, Singh said that the scheduled caste localities in Samba especially in Vijaypur are living example of discrimination with the community.
“They still live in mud-brick houses without BPL ration cases even as they deserve to be included in the list. The deserving people have been kept out of BPL ration. They have also not been provided IAY houses by the respective department,” said the former minister.
He said, “It is unfortunate that even after the 74 years of Independence, the villages where these SC community people live lack proper infrastructure and support from the concerned department.”
He demanded that their names should be included in BPL for ration and the families should be included in IAY houses schemes of the Government so that they can be benefited.
The JKAP senior leader said that most of them are landless and do labour jobs.
He appealed to the Government to focus on the community for their upliftment.
Meanwhile, over a dozen persons joined the J&K Apni Party expressing faith in the leadership of Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari and Manjit Singh.
