Central Reserve Police Force, one of the glorious Security Force of the nation, is celebrating its 78th Raising Day. The Force was raised by the colonial rule as ‘Crown Representative Police’ at Nimach in Madhya Pradesh to tackle the law and order situation in the princely states of Central India. After independence, the Govt. of India rechristened it as ‘Central Reserve Police Force’ under the provisions of a special Act. Ever since its inception, the force has executed each and every task assigned to it with perfection second to none. The Force has proved its mettle in the last 78 years and has become indispensable and the prime force to maintain internal security of the nation.
History of the Force is flooded with such examples when its warriors had placed the national interest above their lives and because of their courage, patriotism and devotion to the service of the nation, defended the integrity and sovereignty of the country. One among such was in the year 1959, when a handful of CRPF warriors combated the Chinese troops on Indo-Tibet border at a place viz. Hot Springs.
In the battle, 10 CPRF troops sacrificed their lives to safeguard the motherland. Also, people cannot forget another battle which was unique and has become immortal in the annals of Armed Forces. It was a remarkable battle of Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch in the year 1965, when a small component of CRPF, with its courage and valour, resisted and repulsed the attack of an outnumbered Pakistan Army brigade. CRPF has displayed unprecedented courage and conviction in the service of the motherland, be it to counter the insurgents in North-East, responsibly pacifying the burning Punjab, the efforts to maintain peace in Jammu & Kashmir or to combat the naxalites in Left Wing Extremism. Besides, whenever the mention of Parliament attack in 2001 or attack in Ayodhya will come, the courage of CRPF personnel will always be remembered. It is the outcome of its courage and conviction that the Force raised with one Battalion in 1939 has grown today having 04 Zone HQs, 21 Administrative Sectors, 02 Operations Sectors, 39 Administrative Ranges, 17 Operational Ranges, 43 Group Centres, 210 Executive Battalions, 10 Rapid Action Force Battalions, 06 Mahila Battalions, 05 Signal Battalions, 01 Special Duty Group and 01 Parliament Duty Group. This Force, full of courage and conviction, has earned various decorations viz. George Cross – 01, King PMG – 03, Ashok Chakra – 01, Kirti Chakra – 01, Padmashree – 01, Vir Chakra – 01, Shaurya Chakra – 14, PPF SMG – 49, PPMG – 192, Yudh Sewa Medal – 01, Sena Medal – 05, Vishisht Sewa Medal – 04, PMG – 1205, IPMG – 05, Jiwan Raksha Padak – 03 and PM’s Jiwan Raksha Padak – 100.This indispensable Force has become an asset for the nation and is always receptive to any responsibility assigned to it to safeguard the constitution of the country.
