In a first, Jammu records 3-digit Corona cases in a day with 114 positives

7 CRPF men from Channi camp, 5 & 3 of 2 families test +ve
*Health, sanitation workers, many from UP, Bihar report +ve

JAMMU, July 10: Jammu region today crossed three-digit mark of COVID-19 positive cases for the first time since pandemic broke out recording 114 cases with Rajouri district alone accounting for 51 as Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed surge in return of Uttar Pradesh and Bihari workers, a number of whom tested positive for the virus. During lockdown as well as ‘Unlock 1 and 2’, the region had reported maximum 88 positive cases in a day so far. Total Corona cases in the region today also crossed 2000 and officially stood at 2094.
Sixteen persons including six women reported positive from Red Zone Pateli, Draj and five with travel history of Kuwait in Rajouri district. Other positives today include seven CRPF personnel from their Channi Himmat camp, three members of an Ustaad Mohalla family, two more staffers of Community Health Centre (CHC) Marh (totaling four), all in Jammu district, five of a family in Ramban, 12 residents of UP and Bihar and two Patiala brothers in Samba district and two sanitation workers in Kathua district. Number of security jawans from Army, BSF, CRPF and JKP also tested positive. A Navy personnel has tested positive in Kathua.
Seven CRPF jawans who had reported back on duty and were under quarantine at their Channi Himmat camp today reported positive for the virus and were shifted to para-military company’s COVID Care facility. They belonged to different States and had returned here after availing leave.
Three members of a family from Ustaad Mohalla including a 33-year-old woman and her two children aged 9 and 4 tested positive for the virus this evening. Two more staffers of CHC Marh also reported COVID positive tonight taking total number of positives from the hospital to four. Earlier, a Laboratory Technician and an ambulance driver of the hospital had tested positive. Two police personnel from Sopore and Baramulla who too had returned to duty here have tested positive.
Other positives of Jammu district include 33-year-old man from Resham Ghar, a 57-year-old Government official from Greater Kailash, a youth from Kunjwani who was symptomatic, another youth from Bihar, 50-year-old from Bishnah, 35-year-old man of RS Pura, two youth from Channi Himmat, 45-year-old from Trikuta Nagar, middle-aged man from Domana, youth from Gole Gujral, 24-year-old from Akhnoor, 28 and three years old from Domana and employee an of a private showroom, who had returned from Haryana.
A total of 23 persons today reported positive in Jammu district.
With 51 more persons testing positive for the virus today in Rajouri, a total of 112 positive cases have been reported in the district during past four days.
Following sudden spike in Corona cases, the district administration in Rajouri has decided to strictly enforce restrictions in Containment Zones including most parts of Rajouri town by keeping shops shut. A number of areas in the district have already been declared as Red Zones after Corona positive cases. Routine services in the GMC Rajouri have been suspended for two days for sanitization purposes after a patient tested positive. Emergency services will remain operational. The district administration of Jammu has also declared Municipal Ward Nos. 30 and 31 falling under Nowabad police station and Camp Gole Gujral as Containment/Red Zone after COVID positive cases.
SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli told the Excelsior that out of 51 positives, 16 hailed from Red Zone village Pateli in Draj area including six women and three infants, two aged 5 and another 10. All of them were contacts of positive cases. Three persons from Nagesh Bridge area of Rajouri City including two youth aged 24 and a 25-year-old woman also reported positive.
Other positives of the district include two constables from Indian Reserve Police (IRP) 2nd battalion, a woman SPO deployed at District Police Lines (DPL) Rajouri, two BSF jawans of 59 battalion, five returnees from Kuwait and two surgery patients. A one-year-old female child from Thangar Kangri in Sunderbani has also tested positive.
Other Corona positive cases of Rajouri hailed from Champaran (two), Ghambir Barahamana (two), Kalakote, Manjakote, Chokian, Thanna Mandi (four), Khanyal, Manjakote, Darhal, Gambirpura, Muradpur and Rajouri town. Number of positive cases were under administrative quarantine.
Eighteen persons today reported positive for COVID-19 in Samba district.
“Of them, 12 hailed from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and were workers of the two States who were returning here for jobs,” SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said, adding that majority of them had gone back to their hometowns during lockdown. All positive persons of the two States were under administrative quarantine at different places.
Six other positives of Samba include a youth from Keso Manhasan with travel history of Mohali, 12-year-old boy from Palli, Bari Brahamna, a youth from Miran Sahib having returned from Gujarat, 38-year-old man from Roop Nagar, also a Gujarat returnee and two brothers of Patiala district in Punjab.
All positive persons have been shifted to COVID hospitals, Pathak said.
Eleven persons including five members of a family and one Dubai-returned woman tested positive for the virus in Ramban district, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Ramban, Dr Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
Of five positive family members were a woman and her four children-three male and one female. Woman’s husband, a vegetable vendor, had earlier tested COVID positive during random sampling. They were residents of Main Bazaar, Banihal.
Other positives in Ramban district were two staffers of a company working for Railways, a 22-year-old woman from Ward No. 5 Batote who had returned from Dubai and three persons from Champa Batote, Eidgah Banihal and Chamalwas Banihal whose samples were taken during random testing, Dr Bhat said.
Seven persons today reported positive in Kathua district. They include two Army soldiers and one each from Navy and BSF.
Three other positives of the district were two sanitation workers of Basohli working in Containment Zone and a traveler.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said 2284 more persons crossed Lakhanpur to enter Jammu and Kashmir during last 24 hours.
Two persons hailing from Kolhian and Behra having travel history of Karnataka and Srinagar reported positive in Poonch district while a traveler tested positive in Reasi district. A CRPF jawan from Chilli Gandoh reported positive in Doda district.
Kishtwar and Udhampur districts didn’t report any Corona positive cases today.
As per the official figures, Jammu region has 2094 Corona positive cases including 625 active. There have been 15 casualties in Jammu region while 1454 patients have been treated and discharged from the hospitals.
Thirty five patients were today discharged from various COVID hospitals in the region including eight in Jammu district, five each in Udhampur, Kathua and Samba, four each in Doda and Reasi and two each in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Four patients were treated and discharged from Chest Diseases Hospital, Bakshi Nagar, according to Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported nine new Corona cases taking total numbers to 1064 including 350 in Leh and 714 in Kargil and active cases to 146—102 in Leh and 44 in Kargil.
So far, 917 persons have recovered from the virus in Ladakh—247 in Leh and 670 in Kargil while there has been one Corona casualty. Of total positives in Ladakh, 12 were admitted in COVID hospitals and 134 were in home isolation.
