Improving road network in rural areas top priority of Govt: Naeem

JAMMU, Jan 30: Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar today asserted that durable roads and enhanced infrastructure tops the development agenda of the present dispensation and focus is being laid on upgrading and improving the road network in rural and remote areas.
The Minister stated this while addressing gatherings after inaugurating several road upgradation works including 7 km long link road from 17 Miles to Budwal via Rajinderpura, 5 km long link road from Ramgarh to Nanga and 7.5 km long  link road from Abtal to Baba Chamliyal via Pardi costing Rs 4 crore, Rs 466.70 lakh  and Rs 699.27 lakh respectively.
Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga was also present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, Naeem Akhtar said that Government is laying emphasis on  improving  road network by linking internal roads with National Highways to give a further fillip to development activities in the State. “Government is ensuring liberal funding under several State and Centrally sponsored schemes to ensure overall development of the State”, the Minister said, adding that roads are the lifeline which changes the socio-economic landscape of an area. He further stressed on regular quality check on roads at both pre and post construction stages to ensure adherence to quality standards.
The Minister said that the Government has laid full focus on development of infrastructure and providing better civic amenities to the people of the State.
Underscoring the importance of connecting rural and remote areas, Minister for I&C said that up-gradation of existing roads will provide requsite boost  to  economic activities which will not only help in the development of rural areas but will also supplement rural livelihood. He said that construction of roads should be seen in the larger context of socio-economic impact that it brings on the rural economy.
The Ministers also visited various border areas and interacted with the residents and soldiers as well.
Later, the Ministers visited the holy shrine of Baba Chamliyal and paid obeisance at the holy shrine and prayed for peace and prosperity in the State.
