KATRA, Jan 11: In a swift and coordinated action against illegal timber smuggling, District Police Reasi, in collaboration with the Forest Department Range Katra, seized a consignment of illegally cut Khair wood during the intervening night of January 10-11 in the Maghal area of tehsil Katra.
Acting on specific information received at Police Station Katra regarding the illicit cutting and transportation of Khair trees, a police team was immediately deputed to the spot. Upon reaching the location, the Police team along with officials of the Forest Department, Range Katra, recovered approximately seven quintals of Khair wood billets, loaded in a Mahindra vehicle bearing registration number JK20B-1649.
The vehicle was being driven by Madan Lal, son of Mani Ram, resident of Kandyar, Tehsil Katra. During preliminary questioning, the driver failed to produce any valid transport permit and could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the possession and transportation of the Khair wood.
Consequently, the accused, along with the seized vehicle and timber, was brought to the Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The entire operation was carried out by SHO Katra, Insp Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra, Dr Bhishm Dubey.
