IIT organises conference on GST

JAMMU, Apr 15: The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Jammu, in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research, organised a two-day national conference titled ‘GST Reforms: Transforming India’s Economic Landscape’.
The conference brought together academicians, policymakers, researchers and practitioners from across India to deliberate on the evolving impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Indian economy.
The conference was organised with the support of Director, IIT Jammu, Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur and coordinated by Dr. Hardeep Singh and Prof. Meenakshi Rajeev of IIT Jammu.
The inaugural session on April 14 began with a welcome address by Dr. Amitash Ojha followed by remarks from Prof. Meenakshi Rajeev and Dr. Hardeep Singh from IIT Jammu. The session featured addresses by the chief guest, Parvin Chandra, Commissioner, CGST, J&K; the guest of honour, Namrita Dogra, Additional Commissioner, State Taxes, Government of J&K; Prof. B. Eswar Reddy, IIT Jammu and other distinguished guests, including Prof. Subhasish Dey, University of Warwick, UK. The inaugural session ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Shafkat Dar, IIT Jammu.
The first day also included a panel session and two technical sessions focusing on the impact of GST on MSMEs, the informal sector and rural-urban livelihoods. Public finance experts from NIPFP, New Delhi, along with other economists and practitioners, participated in these discussions.
The second day began with a technical session on ‘Reimagining GST: The Road Ahead’ followed by a panel discussion on ‘Sectoral Dynamics and Emerging Insights’.
The conference concluded with valedictory session where Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu addressed the gathering. The valedictory session also featured addresses by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and other experts and practitioners.
