SIRMAUR, Sept 22: Centre for Sustainability and Environmental Management (CSEM) at Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Project, conducted week long awareness camps from September 15 to increase the awareness about COVID-19 pandemic.
The CSEM was established in the year 2019 as initiative of Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director IIM Sirmaur. The objective behind establishment of the centre is to promote active research in the field of environment sustainability and steer institute’s efforts in the similar direction in effective and systematic manner.
During the week long activity, a series of awareness camps were organized in the villages adopted by the institute under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of Government of India. The institute has adopted five villages near Paonta Sahib namely Kunja, Ajauli, Jamniwala, Danda, and Dobri.
During the drive, prevention essentials (hundred reusable cotton masks along with a PPE Kit and manual sanitizer spray machine filled with disinfectant for each village) were donated in the adopted villages along with brief demonstration on the usage of the safety kit, appropriate sanitization methods and precautions and preventive measures to be taken care in order to fight this world wide pandemic.
The team met with Gram Panchayat Pradhans Siksha Devi, Manpreet Kaur, Malti Thakur, Sunita Devi and Sunil Chaudhary, Head of Gram Panchayat Pradhan along with respective Panchayat Secretaries at Kunja, Jamniwala, Dobri, Danda and Ajauli Panchayat offices, respectively and handed over the prevention essentials.
On the first day, the team was led by Prof Pradipta Patra, Prof Parul Malik, Dr Arpita Ghosh and other officials of IIM Sirmaur at Kunja. Later, Prof Rinki Dahiya, Prof Pragya Bhawsar and other officials conducted the drive on second day at Ajauli. The 3rd day of drive on 17th September, 2020 was guided by Dr Arpita Ghosh, Prof Parul Malik along with the team. The drive was concluded by Dr Arpita Ghosh along with other officials at Dobri and Danda villages on 21st September, 2020.
Moreover, detailed discussion series were held with all the Panchayat officials regarding rural development. Local village officials were informed about components of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan project undertaken by the institute which focuses on various issues including women entrepreneurship, agriculture, irrigation, education, etc. The villagers appreciated the social responsibility shown by IIM Sirmaur and thanked for helping the local community during this unprecedented times.
