IIM Jammu hosts 2-day Leadership Summit

JAMMU, Feb 27: IIM Jammu hosted a two-day Leadership Summit blended mode on the theme ‘Conquering the Crisis: Shifting Paradigms and the Way Forward’, which witnessed well-known business tycoons, industry experts and visionaries from across the corporate fraternity sharing their expertise.
On the first day of the summit, the institute got an opportunity to host Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus who talked about poverty and the essence of humanity. “The banking system is designed to lend money to people who already having the money, instead, they should lend it to those who need the money,” he stressed and disclosed that 99 percent of the world’s wealth is held by one percent of the population.
“While millions slipped into poverty during the lockdown, some people made billions. This should make us realize the kind of economic systems we have developed,” he said.
Padma Shri, social worker Phoolbasan Bai Yadav narrated her struggle with poverty, hunger and how she led a movement with other women fighting for gender equality, education, and health.
The second day of the Leadership Summit resumed today with the first panel which revolved around the topic ‘The Alchemy of Leadership: Art as source and Inspiration’. The panel was graced by Onir (National Award-Winning Director, Editor and Screenwriter), Dr Jaspinder Narula (Indian playback, classical and Sufi singer), Rohit Bal (Fashion Designer), and Deepak Badhwar (Art Connoisseur, Textile Revivalist and Designer).
The second panel comprised of Smriti Irani, Union Minister of Women and Child Development and Textiles and Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Executive Chairperson and Managing Director, Biocon Ltd. The topic for this panel was ‘Breaking the glass ceiling: I was born to lose, but I chose to win’.
The fourth panel had Shiva Gautam, Partner at KPMG Global Services, Kannan Ramamurthy, Director Engineering Operations, Cisco and, Rajeev Nair, MD – Financial Services Industry Practice, Accenture as esteemed panelists. The topic of the discussion was, “New leadership paradigms: foundation for better future”.
Governor of Rajasthan, Kalraj Mishra was chief guest in the valedictory session. He motivated the students to be strong leaders. Earlier, Professor Muqbil Burhan, Co-Chair of the Summit presented summery of the summit while Prof B S Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu presented a welcome address. Prof Jabir Ali gave a vote of thanks.
