Srinagar, Oct 12: There was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near Mini Secretariat in South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
The Secretariat was scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today but he postponed his visit after shutdown was called by various organizations against last week’s attack on truckers in Udhampur.
The blast occurred at 11.10 am inside a Shamyana which was erected for the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Mini-Secretariat in Shopian.
At the time of blast, the Deputy Commissioner along with other senior police officers were present on the spot but no one was hurt.
Soon after the blast, large contingents of police and security forces rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area.
Police, however, denied that it was an IED blast and instead it insisted that the explosion was due to firecracker.
