JAMMU, June 7: Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Officer (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh today disclosed that a number of idols returned by the United States to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today included a Goddess Durga idol missing from a Jammu and Kashmir temple since 1990.
“A Durga idol missing from a Jammu and Kashmir temple since 1990s is also coming back with the Prime Minister,’’ Dr Singh tweeted.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Markel during her visit to India in October last year had returned a 10-century statue of Goddess, which had also been stolen from Jammu and Kashmir temple during the 1990s and was found in Germany in 2012.
It may be mentioned here that United States Attorney General in a function at Washington DC today returned idols to Modi at a ceremony. The idols had been stolen from India.
