ICCR hosts musical concert ‘Sangam’ under Horizon Series

JAMMU, Oct 22: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Union Ministry of External Affairs, Regional Office, Jammu & Kashmir, showcased a unique mega musical concert of local flavour “Sangam” (Union of Ethos, Kashmiri, Dogri, Gojri, Punjabi folk songs) at KL Seigal Hall, Abhinav Theatre Complex, Jammu.
The concert was presented by a group of renowned artists from Vomedh led by Rohit Bhat under “Horizon Series”. A galaxy of artists and music lovers witnessed the spectacular show with a great zeal and enthusiasm.
The programme started with lighting of lamp performed by the chief guest, Raman Suri along with NK Shil, Regional Director ICCR & Regional Passport Officer and other distinguished notables present there.
The performance began with Kashmiri song “Dil Ki Tar Tarap Rahe Hai” followed by a Dogri song “Chann Madda Chadya” and Punjabi song “Aaj Koi Jogi Aaya” by Sukriti Sharma, Manik Deep Kour, and others which captivated everyone in the audience with their powerful medley of singing.
The melodious Gazal by Reshav “Hum Se Mat Puchaiye Hum Kidar Jayenge Thakke Hai Bahut Ab Tou Ghar Jayenge” almost hijacked the audience and they began tapping their feet and clapping to the tune. Those who accompanied the singers were also the masters in their respective instruments. They included Mohd Siraz (Rabab), Mohd Shafiq (Tumbak Tari), Abdul Rashid (Sarangi), Rahul (Tabla), Arjun (Octobad) and Mohd Ashraf (Matka).
Speaking on the occasion, Raman Suri complimented the efforts of ICCR in promoting communal amity and brotherhood in the society, and preserving the ethnically rich composite culture of J&K UT and harnessing the local talent.
Earlier, in his welcome address, NK Shil informed that ICCR being a cultural wing of MEA basically wants to enhance India’s soft diplomatic power worldwide and boost India’s skills of cultural diplomacy as well as to bring the entire nation together through cultural and educational initiatives/ exchanges.
Prominent personalities who attended the function were KY Manhas, Ex-Judge, Kolkata District Court; DC Sharma, Ex Deputy Commissioner, Excise, TK Sharma, Additional Secretary JKACL and Bishen Singh, eminent Artist.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks presented by Reena Salathia, Cultural Officer, ICCR, RO, Jammu.
