ICCR brings Music, Dances of Mauritius to Jammu

JAMMU, May 28: International programme ‘Music and Dances of Mauritius’ organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations in association with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was held here this evening at Abhinav Theatre.
Dr S D Singh Jamwal, Inspector General of Police Jammu range, was the chief guest, who appreciated the efforts of ICCR in projecting Jammu as an International destination of cultural happenings. Earlier welcoming the august gathering, the Regional Director ICCR, Balwant Thakur informed that ICCR in it’s endeavour to bring world to India and particularly to Jammu invited this International group from Mauritius to expose Jammuites to the culture of that country.
He further informed that this is the 10th International group to perform here since the inception of ICCR in Jammu. Earlier groups from Zambia, Republic of Laos, Poland, Malaysia, Spain ,Bangladesh, Beljium, Germany  have successfully given their successful performances in Jammu. Introducing the visiting cultural group Balwant Thakur further informed that Zouer nu Lamisik group of Mauritius has come all way from Mauritius to present the music and dances of Mauritius.
The visiting artists from Mauritius mesmerised the audience with nine different presentations showcasing the entire repertoire of Mauritius traditional culture. They opened the programme with a song Ala Madam which significes the tradition of welcoming a lady and then showering praises of her beauty. This was followed by a song ‘Grmatin Mo Leve’ which represents the tradition farming community and their singing in the early hours of the day. The rest of the presentations  prominently included ‘Lapel Zanimo’, ‘Anais Ma Poule’ ‘Batte To Tambour’,  and ‘Peser’. The programme concluded with a combined music and dance presentation which was beffiting fina-le of the evening of music and dances of Mauritius. The Mauritius artists who got standing ovation included Riardo Francois (Leader), Cedride Cylandrie, Andy Bayroo, Roalnd Rene, Ruddy Aglae and Julie Savanian.
Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages presented the vote of thanks and the programme was ably conducted by Anil Tickoo.
