IAF airlifts stranded passengers to Leh

UDHAMPUR, Feb 19: Indian Air Force once again came forward for the stranded civilians of Jammu and Kashmir by air lifting 233 passengers from Udhampur to Leh.
Due to recent snow and bad weather in the Leh-Kargil sector, lot of civilians were stranded in Jammu region. IAF operated its special aircraft IL-76 popularly called as Gajraj, today to airlift civilians on requisition by J&K Government.
Air Force Station Udhampur was the staging base for this rescue activity. Special arrangements were made by Air Force Station Udhampur for security and marshalling of civilians, who included ladies and children also, into the technical area. Facilities for easing- off was organised with     co-ordination from local administration. The local administration was in touch with ATC Air Force Station Udhampur and their Officers were liaisoning for arrival details of the IL-76 so that no inconvenience was caused to the passengers.
