UDHAMPUR, Feb 27: Senior political leader, Pawan Khajuria today accused the Housing Board of misleading common people in the name of allotting plots for years together and betraying their dream of having own houses.
Addressing a press conference here, along with ex councillor, Neha Verma, Indu Devi, Renu Gupta, Meenu Dutta, Anu Gupta, Vimla Sharma, Vijay Verma, Kanta Devi, Laxmi Devi, Nidhi Sharma, Madhu Rani, Sunita Devi, and Kanta Kesar, Pawan Khajuria said that around 30 years ago, the Housing Board collected money from people in the name of plot allotment but till date they were not allotted the plots.
He said at that time, many families deposited money with the hope that they would soon be provided land. However, even after decades, neither the plots were allotted nor was any clear or satisfactory response given by the concerned Department.
He further said that in 2010, again, money was collected from these families in the name of providing plots. People were assured that this time the process would be transparent and that plots would be allotted within a fixed timeframe. Many families that time again deposited money to secure a safe home and a better future for their children. Unfortunately, till date, neither have the plots been allotted nor the deposited amount has been refunded.
He said the families, made payments through proper Government receipts and trusted that the system would be accountable. However, as time passed, files did not move forward, officials kept changing, and the common man’s dream remained unfulfilled.
Khajuria described the matter not only as a financial loss but also as a deep emotional setback. He said that many elderly mothers and women are still living with the unfulfilled dream of owning a home, while many young people had planned their futures based on the assurance that they would soon have a house of their own.
He demanded a high-level and impartial investigation into the entire matter by the Government and the concerned department. He also urged that all eligible applicants be allotted plots at the earliest, accountability be fixed on the responsible officials, and strong, transparent mechanisms be put in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
