‘Increase Assembly seats of Jammu region’

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, June 18: Referring to the political resolution adopted by the BJP during its working committee meet held recently in Jammu regarding delimitation of Assembly constituencies in the State, NPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh expressed the hope that it would not turn out to be another ‘Jumla’ of the saffron brigade.
Addressing a press conference here today, Singh said that mere passing of resolution would not suffice and the people of Jammu expected an early action in the matter so that next Assembly elections could be held on the basis of delimitated and re-allocated constituencies. He said that Jammu region was entitled to a higher number of Assembly seats and it was expected that BJP with its “Parchand Bahumat” (massive mandate) would live up to the expectations of the people by fulfilling its often parroted promises.
Ridiculing the BJP for its random sloganeering without corresponding action over its proclamations, Singh said that it had assured delimitation of constituencies earlier as well by incorporating the issue in its vision document as well as agenda of alliance. Nothing however, was heard in this regard during 3 ½ year of BJP rule in the State. Most distressing aspect of the matter was lack of initiative on the part of BJP MLAs and ministers during their rule as none made any effort to rake up the issue inside the Assembly, Harsh Dev rued.
And now once again, the BJP was trumpeting the same issue on the eve of Assembly elections only to mislead the gullible masses and derive political mileage out of its slogans in the coming polls, he added.
Nothing should stop the BJP now from holding delimitation in the State as the entire powers vest in the Centre, Singh said maintaining that with BJP having absolute majority in Centre, it should not be difficult for it to hold delimitation in the state and ensure justice to Jammu by enhancing seats for this marginalized region besides allocating 1/3rd of 24 seats reserved in the constitution for PoJK and three seats to Kashmir region migrants besides 33% reservation for women as per its election time promises. He hoped that delimitation promise of BJP would not meet the same fate as the saffron party’s slogans of abolition of Art 370 and 35A which continue to be  used by the latter as election stunt.
