Home Guard Association demands wages at par with other UTs

JAMMU, July 31: Home Guard Welfare Association here today staged a protest demonstration demanding wages at par with other Union Territories (UTs) of the country.
The protest was led by Kamala Sharma, Association president along with Babu Hussain Malik, chairman EJAC.
“In Union Territory of Delhi, Home Guards are paid Rs. 21,360 including allowances while in Pondicherry they get Rs. 23,731, in Chandigarh Rs. 38,000 and in Lakshdeep their salary is Rs. 19,260,” Kamla Sharma told reporters adding that in J&K the Home Guards are paid Rs. 2,700 per month.
She also said that work of Home Guards is very similar to that of police constables but still the wages given to the former is very less as compared to that of police constables.
Kamala Sharma said that Government should frame a policy for Home Guards and implement Supreme Court’s ruling that Home Guards in all Union Territories should be paid similar wages.
She also urged upon J&K Lieutenant Governor to look into their matter and do something in this regard.
