Jammu’s young Ophthalmologist performs first MMG surgery

Jammu, July 31 : In a first, young and budding Ophthalmologist from Jammu, Dr Gazal Pushp, has performed Mucous Membrane Graft (MMG) surgery here at Arudev I Care For Vision Eye Centre, Sainik Colony.
As per information shared by the Dr Pushp, who is a corneal transplant surgeon, first time MMG eye surgery has been performed in Jammu on a 21-year-old male with Steven Johnson Syndrome sequelae.
“Due to the Syndrome, the patient had dense corneal haze and loss of vision due to lid margin keratinisation” the doctor revealed.
She said that the graft was harvested from the inner side of the lower lip, adding, “Steven Johnson Syndrome is a disease which occurs as a reaction to commonly prescribed medicines and even paracetamol can cause it.”
Dr Pushp added that the surgery lasted three hours and the surgical team comprised Senior Ophthalmologist, Dr D P Gupta and Anaesthetist Dr Rakesh Anand assisted her.
“The patient is responding well to the surgery and his vision in both the eyes has improved,” she asserted.
