JAMMU, Aug 31: Head, Department of Neurology, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, Dr Bodh Raj Kundal, was today arrested by police for molesting a female patient at his private clinic.
According to SDPO Bakshi Nagar, Dr Pranab Mahajan, a young girl of age about 25 years belonging to Reasi district lodged a written complaint at police post, GMCH, this morning, alleging that last evening she along with some of her family members visited the private clinic of Dr BR Kundal located at his residence at Reshamgarh colony in front of the main gate of Psychiatric Hospital, Jammu for her check up.
He said that, in her complaint, girl alleged that the doctor deliberately delayed her appointment and preferred to examine other patients. “In the complaint, the girl submitted that the doctor examined her in the end and too in isolation and during examination he tried to molest her”, the officer said.
The officer said that acting on the complaint of the girl, a case under Section 354 (assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of Ranbir Penal Code was registered this morning at police station Bakshi Nagar and the doctor was arrested from his residence. Further investigation in the case is going on, he added.
Meanwhile, sources said that with the accusation of the girl patient, at least it has been established that Dr Kundal was doing private practice, which is at present banned for all HoDs. However, many HoDs are defying the ban order and engaged in private practice.
Recently, HoD, Oncology, Dr Ashutosh Gupta, was booked by Vigilance Department for running a private clinic and doing private practice.
When Dr Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education, was contacted to verify whether they are going to take action against HoD Neurology for illegally doing private practice, which has been established with the accusation of the girl, he said that they have not received any intimation from police department. “However, we will look into it and take appropriate action if needed,” he added.
