‘Hiranagar neglected in NABARD road projects’

JAMMU,  Feb 24: Alleging discrimination and unfair treatment, the Congress member from the area today pointed out that  Hiranagar tehsil has been neglected in the allotment of funds under road projects in last five years.
Raising the issue during Question Hour in the Upper House today, Congress legislator Subash Gupta alleged that under NABARD funding from 2007-13,  Bani was provided Rs 40 crore for nine projects, Basohli 41 crore, Billawar 37 crore for 13 projects, Kathua Rs 32 crore while Hiranagar just Rs 3.5 crore for merely two projects.
The members expressed his strong resentment and sought reply from the Minister incharge R&B Abdul Majid Wani why this discriminatory attitude was adopted towards this constituency.  The member also sought details of the sanctioned projects in entire district Kathua under NABARD in road sector.
Replying to the main question, the Minister said that during last five years, two schemes of Hiranagar constituency namely construction of Spral main link road (Gujjar Basti) and construction of vented causeway over Babbar nallah in Km 2nd on Rajpura- Sarthian link in Ghagwal have been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 142.88 lakh and Rs 217.75 lakh under NABARD RIDF XVI & XVIII.
He said as per the demand projected by the concerned MLA and projects got prepared for area, the sanction was accorded. More funds could have been provided to the area, if more projects would have been sent. But he assured the member to provide special attention in coming years to the area in road projects.
