JAMMU, Feb 21: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today said that upgradation of Health infrastructure received focused attention of the Government, adding that at present the work on various health projects involving total cost of Rs. 1500 crore are under execution in the State.
Replying to the demand of grants of Health Department in Legislative Assembly here today, the Minister said that a number of reformative steps were taken by the State Government with financial support of the Centre under NRHM programme for providing quality health care facilities to the people especially living in rural and far-flung areas.
The Minister said with these reformative measures, the health indicators have subsequently improved in the State; however, menace of female feticide in the State needs to be completely eliminated with determination. For the purpose Government has stepped up efforts at different levels. The mass awareness has yielded tangible results in this direction, said the Minister.
To overcome the shortage of doctors in various health institutions the recruitment process 700 posts of doctors through Public Service Commission is at its final stage, besides, large number of doctors and para medics have been posted in rural health institutions across the State under NRHM.
Mr. Sham said that to strengthen the network of ambulances across the State, the Government is in the process of procuring 200 more ambulances. This will strengthen the existing fleet of ambulances to augment the services in rural areas.

Abdul Rashid, Charanjit Singh, Javed Mustafa Mir, Ashwani Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Durga Dass, Irfan Shah, Javed Ahmed Dar, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Rafi Ahmed Mir, Bharat Bushan and Rachpal Singh.
The Members who had moved the cut motions withdrew the same after satisfactory reply from the Minister.
Later, the House passed the grants of Health Department with the voice vote.
