Health Insurance

Sir,
It has reference to the news “All J&K residents to have 5 lakh free health insurance”. The Lt. Governor administration has taken path breaking initiative and is destined to revolutionise health care facilities in the UT if implemented in right perspective. Kudos to Lt. Governor G C Murmu and his administration for taking such a public welfare measure that is going to prove a major confidence building measure as every individual is to get benefited .The health care has become a major concern in present era. While medical insurance cover is reportedly universal in developed countries, India is lagging behind and people have to suffer on its account.
The Narendra Modi Government took a bold decision by introducing Ayushman Bharat Scheme to bring poor sections of the society under cover but Murmu administration has taken big stride by announcing universal health insurance cover to all the residents of J&K. If implemented without hiccups, other states will naturally emulate the UT to ensure Universal Health Insurance cover in the country. As it is applicable for all, the administration shall ensure its implementation at the earliest without introducing unnecessary riders.
Meanwhile there are genuine apprehensions that unnecessary investigations and procedures are conducted by some health institutions on the patients covered under health insurance for obvious monetary considerations. A mechanism needs to be evolved to address the concern.
