SRINAGAR, Oct 15: High Court today sought status report from Indian Air force (IAF) for installation of CAT-II or CAT-III equipment on Srinagar International Airport for safe landing of airplanes on runway despite having bad weather.
The IAF counsel T Shamsi in this regard apprised the Court that the deliberations are under process with State Government and other stakeholders with regard to feasibility and keeping in view of other factors for installation of CAT-II or CAT-III.
The division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Alok Aradhe granted time to IAF counsel for latest status on the issue. In view of court directions installation of Simple Approach Lighting System (SALS) at the airport has already been done.
Hearing suo-moto cognizance initiated by Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and thereafter treated as public interest by the then Chief Justice of the State in view of public interest involved in the matter, the court directed the AAI to launch the SALS with a time frame as per the affidavit of AAI.
The suo-moto cognizance was taken when Court found that the Airport Authority of India has, prima facie, failed to take notice of hardships and difficulties being regularly faced by the people, who travel to and fro Kashmir by air.
Pertinently by setting up the CAT-II or CAT-III would increase the visibility from 1000 meters to 1300 meters and in such eventuality airplane can land despite foggy or bad weather.
