Srinagar, Dec 8: As various agencies blame one another for the dilapidated condition of various roads including National Highway, the Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court today asked the Government to file status report on the condition of these roads and agency responsible for their maintenance.
The Court has been informed by the various counsels appearing in PIL filed by the residents of Tral area about the dilapidated conditions of various roads in the valley which include National Highway from Awantipora to Tral as also the road from Pantha Chowk to Sonawar Srinagar.
On the other hand the authorities like R&B, PWD and Beacon hold one another responsible for the control of these roads as such court in this regard directed the State counsel to collect information regarding these concerns and file latest status report within two weeks.
According to advocate G N shaheen, the condition of road from Awantipora to Tral via Nowdal is in a shabby condition. He further submits that on National Highway from Pantha Chowk to Sonwar no one is taking responsibility, Beacon says it is the job of R&B whereas R&B states it is the job of Beacon.
Another Advocate stated that road from Bandipora to Srinagar is in absolute bad condition on which it is very difficult to travel on the said road and it takes three to four hours time for one hour’s travel on the said road and precious time of commuters is consumed due to the condition of the said road.
Keeping in view the concerns as highlighted, Dy AG (Q R Shamas) shall collect information regarding these concerns and to file status report within two weeks”, Division Bench of Justice Mohammad yaqoob Mir and Justice B S Walia directed and ordered the listing of the case for further consideration in the week commencing 27th December.
The civil society has sought directions for repairing the National Highway from Jammu to Srinagar especially from Banihal to Srinagar and Srinagar to Baramulla. It also seeks directions to macadamize the existing old NH1A to make it fit for vehicular traffic to the minimum international and national standards level to the convenience of general public at large.
