HC seeks report on anti-rabies vaccine

Srinagar, Apr 24: The High Court has sought latest status report from various authorities for awareness on dog bites and availability of anti-rabies vaccines in all district hospitals.
Hearing the PIL on increasing dog menace and dog bite cases, the Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, after noticing that the anti-rabies vaccines are not available in  district hospitals, directed the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd to ensure requisite supply subject to the requisition by all the concerned hospitals.
Court also recorded in its order that the Director Health Services Kashmir and Director SKIMS were required to file latest status and action taken report which though filed is not complete, therefore, directed them to file latest status report by or before the next date of hearing, providing therein details about availability of anti rabies vaccine in district hospitals.
The other aspect which relates to the awareness of dog bites and anti-rabies management, in this regard awareness was sought to be created through social media sites, such as, facebook and WhatsApp groups but the report has not been filed till date and court directed for filing of the same by or before next date.
Other aspect which pertains to animal birth control and setting up of anti-rabies centers, Court has been informed that two Centers are in place and third one at Tengpora, Srinagar is going to be set up within 9 to 10 months. Court in this behalf sought latest status by or before next date.
About the curtailment of energy rich garbage availability to stray dogs for which various measures had been undertaken and were proposed to be continued but latest status has not been filed, court directed the same be filed by or before the next date.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation has been directed on status report about financial logistic support from the Housing and Urban Development Department so that the action plan formulated by the SMC for controlling stray dog menace in the state is achieved.
The earlier reports filed by the Principal Secretary to H&ME  Department and Commissioner, SMC has been taken on record. Court said those will be examined after the requisite reports are filed by Director Health Services Kashmir and Director SKIMS as required by them in terms of previous order.
