HC seeks record of plaint against Shankaracharya

INDORE, Nov 17:
Madhya Pradesh High Court today sought from a lower court record of a complaint filed against Dwarkapeeth Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati in connection with his alleged controversial statements against Shirdi’s Sai Baba.
The order was given by high court’s Indore bench Justice T K Kaushal on a petition filed by Saraswati (90) seeking to quash the complaint against him pending in a lower court.
The high court has fixed November 28 as the next date of hearing in the matter, Ashvin Adhyaru, lawyer of complainant Rajesh Shivsangia, told reporters here.
Shivsangia (50), who runs a men’s beauty parlour, had filed a complaint in the district court against Saraswati on June 25 and also submitted a CD of his alleged controversial statements.
The complainant had alleged that Swaroopanand’s statements had deeply hurt the religious feelings of a large number of Sai Baba devotees, therefore a case under IPC’s section 298 (uttering words, etc with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person) should be registered against him.
