HC seeks oldest ecological satellite map of Dal

Srinagar, Nov 27: High Court today after having deliberation on the report of Expert Committee (EC), observed to State counsel that enforcement and implementation be done at any cost as also oldest ecological satellite map of the Dal lake be made available to the committee.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Sanjeev Kumar while reserving its orders after brief perusal of the report submitted by the Expert Committee (EC) observed to State Counsel B A Dar (Sr. AAB) that in the first instance, stop pollution into the lake.
Court also observed that use of chemicals and pesticides for gardening in the peripheries of the lake should immediately be stopped which, the court said, is also contaminating water of the lake.
Court has also emphasized on reducing the number of house boats as also proper maintenance of STPs in the lake for that court suggested construction of new STPs which would have proper capacity to treat the sewage.
Court during the proceedings of the case referred certain observations made by the Expert Committee in which committee has said that since there is no dearth of authorities or regulations but the problem seems to be enforcement and implementation.
“Even after the setting up of LAWDA, an agency responsible exclusively for the Dal lake protection, there has not been much of an improvement”, the CJ referred one of the observations made by the EC in its report.
On alarming water quality of the lake, court while referring the observation of EC, said the report of the PCB showed that in almost all critical paramaters that measures the water quality, the figures are alarming.
