Srinagar, July 24: High Court today issued notice to Government and sought reply in petitions filed by various National Conference leaders challenging their detention and confinement.
These leaders who seek direction to police authorities including Director General of Police, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, concerned SSPs and SHOs for producing these detainees before the court and set them free from their long detention are Shamima Firdous, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Abdul Majid Bhat (Larmi), Mohammad Shafi Shah, Nasir Aslam Wani, Chowdhry Mohammad Ramzan, Bashir Ahmad Shah(Veeri), Saif-ud-din Bhat (Shutru), Mohammad Irfan Shah, Abdul Rahim Rather, Aga Syed, Roohullah, Mubarak Gul and Basharat Bukhari.
These persons approached the Court individually and various benches of High Court today after hearing these petitions through their counsel Shariq Reyaz issued notice to Government for filing of reply within three weeks.
It was submitted that immediately after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India on August 5 last year, the detainees were illegally and unlawfully put under house arrest by the authorities without disclosing cause and without serving any order of arrest to them which they said, violated the constitutional guarantee, assured under article 21 of the constitution.
