JAMMU, Dec 23: High Court today directed the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct the investigations into the mysterious murder of Vikram Singh alias Gabbar, son of Rattan Singh of Amabaran.
The order was passed by Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur after hearing Advocate Aseem Kumar Sawhney appearing for the petitioner and Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State.
“This is a petition for an appropriate direction to the respondents to constitute a Special Investigation Team. (SIT) with officers of professional repute and integrity with a view to investigate the death of the petitioner’s son. Apprehensions have been expressed by the petitioner regarding the competence and fairness of the officers including the SDPO Akhnoor, Investigating Officer and SHO Akhnoor”, the High Court observed.
“It is stated that the death had occurred on 26th April, 2013 and the investigation had still not been completed and no FIR registered despite the fact there was sufficient material available on record for the investigating agency to register an FIR and proceed against the guilty”, the Court observed.
With these observations, High Court disposed off the petition with the direction to the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of some competent officers, which will be supervised by an officer, not below the rank of Superintendent of Police. “The investigation shall be carried out and should be concluded without any under delay.” the Court directed.
